| mel_mg's Full Review: Monte Carlo Resort And Casino |
I just got back from a recent trip to Las Vegas and staying at the Monte Carlo. This was my first time at this resort even though I go to Vegas at least once a year.
Upon arrival I am impressed by the lobby. Wide open. That I like. They have this huge checkin counter. And when I get there at 2pm they have only 3 people doing checkin's. The lines were 10 deep easy until they got some help. (one person came and opened up...JUST ONE) Pathetic!!!!!
I've finally gotten to my rrom and it's not bad but a little musty smelling. It's on the 25th floor and suppose to be non-smoking. After putting my things away I find an ashtray in the dresser with about 10 ciggy butts in it. Obviously the maid missed a few things. The tub was dirty (IMO) Had the old pink mold liner around the tip of it.
So, now I've decided to go check out the place and get something to eat. First thing I notice in the food court is the price. These places make so much money off you and I and I can't understand why they have to double the prices in a place like the Monte Carlo. $1.75 for a medium cup of coffee. And it was a crappy cup of coffee btw. I had a pastry, waiting until dinner to really stuff my face. I decide to go out and check out the place. I'm not a bigtime gambler but I will play the .25, 1.00 slots. But what is really fun to me is to just take a couple hours (with $10) and play the nickel video poker. After a long trip to get there that is the best way for me to relax and catch my second wind. Plus you can sit there and have free drinks and people watch. Therein lies another problem. My first day the waitress came by once in 2 hours. I finally had to go to the bar and ask for another pepsi. They told me the waitresses aren't suppose to get around the nickel video games too often. House rules. Huh, such a shame they do that. And my other pripe with the nickel games is that I'm seeing them fazed out by the resorts. Times are a changing huh?
Well, it's dinner time and usually I don't go to the buffet's for dinner but everyone said it looked good. I must admit it wasn't too bad. It wasn't great food but better than hospital food. The beef and turkey could use less fat though. I threw mine away. Half of it was fat. They have some oriental food there also and it wasn't too bad. The dinner roles were alittle too old though. The deserts were fabulous. )how can you ruin a desert huh?)
I decided to try the same place for breakfast and all's I can say is "absolutly delicious". Hard to ruin a breakfast buffet though. We were going to try and do the pool thing but there was a lineup just to get out there. And then they allow people to reserve area's which I hate. They should change this because it is stupid. The pool's are real cool though. I liked the floating river pool and so did my kids. As always the shops are way overpriced. There was a bartell's across the street so we went over there to get what we needed. And what is the deal with not selling gum at casino's? I know, I know....they don't sell it cause they don't want gum ruining their machines.
My overall impression of Monte Carlo...............
It's a nice place but I wouldn't go back. And I really don't think it's a good place for the family. This is more your business man place or for the rich and snotty couples. So, what would I do different next time??
I'd bypass this place. There are much better places for a lot less money.
