Big Name, Rooms like Holiday Inn

Written: Jan 30 '00
Pros:If you like small, plain, basic, expensive rooms 1 mile away from the elevator, this is for you!
Cons:Overpriced, Overrated, Unimpressive.

Typically, When My wife and I go to Vegas, We stay at The Luxor, A real Vegas hotel. Well, when we were in town during Comdex, we decided to try something different and spend $165 to stay in a "suite" at the MC. I say "suite" because if you think a suite is nothing more than a bigger standard room, you won't be disappointed here. Plain is the keyword. When I spend that type of money on a room at the Luxor, I get jet tubs, large rooms (yes ROOMS, not one large room with 1 1/2 baths? What sense does that make?) Wet bar, etc etc...but not at the Monte Carlo, where I felt like I had just checked in to a honeymoon suite at the local Ramada Inn. The gold tone hardware in the bathrooms was chipped and discolored, my wife stepped on broken glass in the bathroom and cut her foot within 2 hours of being there, the complimentary safe in the room was broken. Not quite what we had hoped for. The front desk people were polite, but not especially understanding when it came to the complaints.

The food in the "cheaper" spots in the hotel was average, but expensive in comparison to many of the other nicer hotels, but not too bad if you don't mind spending $25 for breakfast for 2. The waitress was overworked and rude, I think it took 25 minutes before she took our drink/food order.

We were supposed to stay 3 nights. We checked out after the first night and paid the same amount of money ($165) to stay at the basic Luxor rooms (nicer than the corner suites at MC), even though the MC management offered to upgrade us to the next larger suite for the same price. Wasn't interested. I didn't wish to subject myself to it any longer, and let him know it. I won't go back, not even just to gamble there. I never thought I would find something negative to say about anything in Las Vegas until I stayed here.
