if you thinking of staying at mandalay bay because of the great pool, think again. although monte carlo is older, it has a better location on the strip, it has a great food court conveniet to the pool, the rooms are clean and attractive, friendly staff, and much cheaper than the mandalay bay. my sister's family stayed at the m.b. and we visited their room which was bigger but so what.
Both hotels have a wave pool and lazy river with waterfalls along with some other calmer pools. mandalay bay areas are a little more expensive looking and have sand, which is a minus for me. also the wave pool at m.b. was shut down to get ready for a beachy luau shindig planned for that night for the prudential people. this did not go over well with the kids.
I assume they do this on a regular basis, but i don't know for sure. the pool closes promptly at six at the m.b.. i'm not sure when it does at the monte carlo but if your looking at places to stay for the family the monte carlo was great for all ages

There is even a macdonald's and a bagel place in the food court
