I recently stayed at the Monte Carlo and I was very pleased. I got a room on the 22nd floor with a view of the strip and it was spectacular.
The elevators are express elevators so level 1 -13 has an elevator etc.. The elevators are located between the front desk and the casino, so no carting luggage through the casino.
The room was very comfortable with nice furnishings. In the room were two queen beds, a writing desk, chair, end table, dresser and an armoire which held the TV. All the furnishings were done to look like Cheerywood. In the (large) bathroom you had a plush bath mat, and a large vanity/sink area
The brewery/pub is a great place to eat there. They have good food and the prices are not bad. They have about 7 of their own brews to choose from. There is also a cigar shop attached. IF you just want snacks without going to a restaraunt there is a market in the hotel.
If you want to visit other hotels you can get a tram to the Bellagio or go right next door to the New York, New York to catch the Strip Trolley. Nearby hotels include New York, New York, and the MGM Grand
There were a couple of down sides. There are not many shops and the 24 hour cafe had horribly slow service and was outrageously expensive (over $7 for an egg breakfast).
