| Starrrynit's Full Review: Disneys Port Orleans-French Quarter |
The lush plantation setting was a sight for my weary eyes. Due to the fiasco my family experienced, we had been travelling for over 9 hours (see my review for ATA....http://www.epinions.com/trvl-review-13C0-59380AD-3957B6EF-prod1).
Hot, tired, hungry, and increasingly eager to start the famed "Disney Experience", we disembarked the Mear's Airport Bus and dragged our bodies to the check-in counter. Ahhh yes...our first wait in an official Disney line. Amid my husband's quiet grumblings ("What's with the holdup? You'd think they'd have a better freakin' system!"), I couldn't help notice the serene atmosphere outside. Beautifully landscaped with native flowers and trees everywhere, it was a picturesque view.
Twenty minutes later, we were presented with four room cards. These cards granted my family entrance to not only the resort room but to all Disney parks and was activated for credit card purchases.
A bit lost within our new surroundings, we wandered outside and were greeted by a bellhop in a golf cart. He drove my family and our belongings to our room, acting as a tour guide along the way to help acclimate us to Dixie Landings.
Located in the Magnolia Bend/Oak Manor area, our room was located on the first floor so we didn't have to make the trek up the stairs. My overheated family and I appreciated that the ceiling fan and air conditioner were already running at full speed. The room was neat and clean, featuring two double beds a TV/dresser combo, and a small table. The bathroom was very small and the two pedestal sinks were located in it's own area next to the bathroom.
Another nice thing about our room was that a "quiet" pool and laundry facility were located about 20 seconds worth of walking distance! We went in that pool everyday. I could get used to waiting in a pool for the laundry to finish :)
During our five day stay at Dixie Landings, we regularly ate at Colonel's Cotton Mill, a food court on the property. A wide variety of food, beverages, and baked goods were available, suprisingly at the same cost that would be paid at a mall back home. Also, we went to Boat Wright's Dining Hall , which is a slightly fancy seafood restaurant. The prices there were moderately expensive (approximately $60 for a family of four), the cuisine was excellent, and the kids were welcomed.
Other amentities we enjoyed at Dixie Landings included:
* a number of pools, one of which featured a small water slide, a hot tub, a wading pool, and a bar/snack area. This was located on Ol' Man Island.
* Boat, family (up to four) bike, fishing pole rentals; various prices;
*Sassagoula Steamboat: a riverboat that takes passengers to Port Orleans (10 minute ride) or Downtown Disney (25 minute ride); free;
* Air-conditioned bus service to Disney Parks; we never had to wait more than 10 minutes; free;
I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone who travels to Disney with 4 or less people. The people are very friendly, the food is great, the pools were enjoyable, and Dixie Landings is reasonably priced ($150/Peak season). I couldn't ask for more from this resort!
