Located within Southampton parish is the epitome of Luxury, the Southampton Princess. This large resort sits high and mighty atop a rolling hill, its pink pastels showing brightly to the rising and setting suns above turquoise waves and rolling green grass and lines of gardens amongst the paths leading to the entrance.
To behold such a grand gesture upon this tiny island is a wonder in and of itself. The entryway leads off to numerous corridors the walls lined with Bermuda cedar and fabulous works of art are styled with European elegance. The stairs fashioned with wooden rails, lead to the overlooking foyer with additional corridors leading to the depths of this grand keep’s rooms and suites, where as the corridors of the entry lead past the amenities of today. These include such things as several top notched restaurants, a beauty salon, retailers and even their own dance clubs. The chandeliers all glistening from the light through crystal will let you know that you have arrived, and in the most fashionable style.
More than just regal you will be lavished as Royalty at this Princess hotel. Their rooms contain all that the average traveler would need. From lavish comfy beds and color TV’s to refrigerators and mini bars and bathrooms stocked with hand milled soaps and bath gel as well as blow dryers, shoot even your own little room safe for while you are out and about; their rooms will definitely add up if you want your privacy. If you choose to venture out however fear not, from bell staff to valet beautician to physician and even baby sitting service the staff is prepared to make your stay here as enjoyable and trouble/worry free as possible.
This is no pooch castle either, the Queen would not appreciate all her little princesses housing pets, save those to help them see. Nor do I believe the parlor men, of such fine shops as A.S. Coopers, with fine jewelry and crystal wares or any of the other fabulous clothing retailers which operate at this location, would fancy their wares on poor little Fifi or Big Brutis. Granted little Fifi might look nice in some grand cashmere, but running the corridors is surely not the place in a place of this grandeur.
The resort sponsors activities for young and old alike. While mom and dad take a leisurely walk along the pristine beaches the kids can be left supervised with activities that range from the pool to all but jousting on the huge lawn before the resort, something which is rare too on an island this size. Picture if you will all the young dukes and duchesses filling the skies with grand kites or on a massive treasure hunt right there on the property. Yet alone imagine them going on an escorted visit to limestone cabins filled with stalactites and stalagmites or even the aquarium or to the dock yards to not just adventure out but learn some interesting facts.
Perhaps while the children are entertained you may decide to take in the dolphin adventure and swim along side these graceful creatures. Maybe you might decide to sit high upon the hillside looking forever around at all the marvelous translucent waters watching the power boat races or even decide to sail during cup match to St. George’s and back to watch the cricket contest or even to tackle their grand Golf course. The choices are endless to Royalty.
Whence upon your return you shall be served dinner in any of their restaurants by a wait staff trained to cater to your ever need. Whether you decide to dine in the traditional Bermudian style of the Waterlot Inn or the Yatch styled Newport room or even Wickets Brasserie where the wait staff is adorned in cricket uniforms you will be pampered as your position warrants. Bermuda restaurants never fall short of the proper courtesies and are forever attentive to your needs and desires even if it is to be left alone. Perhaps you might decide to eat away from the main hotel and take in the Rib Room located at their golf club. This is where my escapades often would find me when seeking the finest in entertainment in Southampton. With grilled delicacies this steakhouse was fabulous and also includes a wonderful salad bar something that is rare in Bermuda. Should you decide you want no beets or Salad then beat feet to the beating of the drum playing at the beach Cabana where they serve quick meals such as burgers and fries.
The concierge can arrange most off sight tours and engagements for you as well and with everything from Sailing to Scuba Diving available you are sure to enjoy your stay here. So whether you plan to hide out in the luxury of you room or to take in the sights the Southampton Princess will pamper you, even cradle you if desired or watch as you ( the royalty ) swim, golf, sail or even play tennis at this grand resort.
Once the daylight has turned to twilight the ballrooms just off the entranceway will change before your eyes. With line dancing and disco available right at the resort. The disco lounge here was fabulous and as a local was the main reason for being attracted to the resort. Many a night I spent dancing the night away with the Poshest of the Posh. Rubbing elbows with the royalties as they got down to the groove of the rhythm of the beat.
Remember as Royalty that you should bring some of your Kings coffers with you however, for the luxury of pampering comes with a price tag. Most tipping is automatically included in your bill as well. Plan to at least put a small dent into the coffers as rooms run from around $200/night and up dinning averages around $40/person just for dinner then add drinks, well you get the picture.
The Southampton Princess is a marvelous resort. It’s steep price tag makes it expensive, but you do get what you pay for and many packaged deals are available which can include your meals as well as adventures away from the resort. Having said this the biggest warning I can give is “If you plan to stay here, don’t stay only on their grounds as nice as they are”. I know, why would I give such a warning? It is simple really, there is so much to this small island, I would hate for you to miss out!
