| kldesq's Full Review: Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach Cancun |
I just returned from a four night stay at the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral in Cancun and here are my impressions:
Overall: this is a great hotel although I wish it were part of the hotel chains I collectively stay over 200 nights per year (Marriott and Starwood). It is a large hotel right on the beach and in the "point" area of Cancun.
Highs: GREAT location. I've stayed at the JW Marriott Cancun and while that hotel is terrific as well the Fiesta American has a superior location in that you can walk from that property to a number of tourist activities and restaurants. The JW Marriott and Le Meridian and Hilton for that matter are really isolated. From the the Fiesta Americana you can easily walk to Senor Frogs, Carlos and Charlies the Mall, flea market (not fun for me) or any other of a large handful of other tourist spots.
Beach: the beach at the FA is beautiful and is well groomed by the hotel. Note that ALL beaches in Mexico are PUBLIC by law but the FA seems much more private than the beach at the JW Marriott. That said the waves at the FA are tame and nearly non existant here compared with the JW or any other other hotels along that stretch. If you have young kids or don't like strong wave with undertwo you'll like the FA more. If you want monster waves--or nearly ANY waves for that matter you'll be happier at other hotels.
Pool: the pool is a series of four pools linked together, forming one large meandering pool. The pool is beautiful but is NOT a 'fun' type pool. In other words there are NO slides or even an infinity pool that the JW has. There are two very nice pool bars where they serve great drinks and also have a full service menu.
Lobby: the lobby is huge and very pretty, it is open and airy and connects the two wings (also connected by the fourth floor).
Grand Club: we were upgraded to the Grand Club, which includes a very nice conceirge club on the 12th floor. The Club is beautiful and the service (both by a full-time attendant for food and drinks AND a full-time conceirge) is first rate. The breakfast is a full service type, including wonderful french toast and bacon, eggs, etc. The "dinner" isn't much of a dinner at all just light snacks--really not that good compared with breakfast which was great. The upgrade fee is $110 per night which UNLESS you drink is probably not worth it. However, if you want to drink I would recommend it as there is an open bar starting in the mid afternoon and going nearly all night. This is well beyond the normal beer and wine selection you'd expect at a business class hotel in the USA in that they will make Margaritas, etc. Javier one of the attendants was great.
Rooms: The hotels represents itself as an "all suite" property. To me a suite has at least two rooms and this is NOT the case at the FA. The vast majority of the rooms are "junior suites" which are basically one fairly large room with a small balcony and small bathroom. We were in room 277 which is a "Grand Suite." The location was great, right over the marina with commanding views and a huge wrap around deck. This "Grand Suite" was still just one room, albeit a very large room with a sunken in living room. The bathroom was huge complete with a beautiful walk in shower in marble and with the heavenly bath by Westin. It also has a jacuzzi bath which we didn't use. I would highly recommend upgrading to the larger suite as it is significantly bigger and the deck is fantastic.
Restaurants: since I was there for a convention I really didn't eat in any other the restaurants but we did order room service for my kids and it was good.
