Logitech M 185 Mouse: Where size does matter

Pros:storage for the USB plug, small
Cons:too small, can lose the USB plug
The Bottom Line: I wouldn't buy this again and will be looking for a full-sized mouse even for traveling. This one hurts my hand.
The touch pad on my HP Pavilion computer is very sensitive. I thought there was something wrong with it because my cursor jumped around. I brought it into Best Buy and was told that there is nothing wrong and that I could turn the touch pad off or use a mouse. Well my husband has a Microsoft mouse, which I used while on vacation and liked. So I bought myself the Logitech Wireless Mouse M185. I hadn’t read any reviews and neither my husband nor I thought that the size would matter. It's smaller than a standard mouse, about 75% the size.

About the Logitech M185:
This mouse has a 12-month battery life. The 2 AA batteries are installed in the mouse.
It works with Windows-based and Mac computers. There is no software.
There is a 3-year limited warranty.
This mouse is tiny. I literally just got off the phone with my daughter complaining about my wrist hurting me. I then read some epinions reviews and discovered that these small mice are for travel and not for the kind of use I need.
It measures about 3 ¾ inches long by 2 ¼ inches wide. It is less than 3-inches high. My husband’s Microsoft mouse is small as well but its 3 ½ inch height makes it a bit better ergonomically. My Logitech is curved and has indentations that make it ergonomically correct but it is just too small for everyday use. Since that is why I bought it and there is no mention on the packaging indicating that it is “mini” or for travelling, I had no idea that it wasn’t the right one to buy. Granted it was only about $15.00 but there is nothing fancy about it so I thought that was the reason for the low price rather than the size.
There are pros and cons to the Logitech M185’s USB plug. My husband’s is 2-inches so I was very careful while we were traveling to take it out so it wouldn’t get hit by anything and break. However, it is not very easy to lose. My Logitech USB plug is ¾ inches! That is so tiny. Sure I can leave it in my computer without worrying about it breaking but for travel I will take it out. The chances of it getting lost are really high – for me anyway. But there is a saving grace. My husband’s Microsoft mouse has a place underneath to store the USB plug. Mine does as well but I have to take off the battery case and then the plug just slips in and I easily pull it out to use it. So it seems the pros and cons of the size of the USB plug wash each other out.
There is an on/off switch on the bottom next to the USB plug storage spot. It is easy to just move it on and off but there is nothing on the mouse itself that tells me it is on or off.
The Logitech M185 has a middle scroll dial that scrolls smoothly, quickly, and easily. It is tread-like, feels l like rubber and has some texture to it.
I know some people address range. This mouse apparently will work 5' to 30’ feet away but it is not clear to me why anyone would want this feature.
My mouse works on paper (My computer sits on a calendar.) and on most any surface.
During the writing of this review I have gone back and forth from my Logitech mouse to my husband’s Microsoft mouse to my touch pad. I will keep the Logitech for traveling and so far so good regarding my touch pad’s sensitivity. I have to work on keeping my palms off the pad.
The Logitech really isn't very effective for my life. I wish I had known that it was not a mouse for everyday use because I would not have bought it.
My hand is killing me after a couple of hours of writing today so I am going to stick with my husband's and or my touchpad until I get something bigger.
How to rate this?
I really don’t like it and I wouldn’t buy it again. My husband’s Microsoft, though not much bigger feels better. For traveling I can use my touch pad making the Logitech unnecessary and for home if I want a mouse I will be buying a full-size mouse.
