Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Dwell Magazine Subscription
Magazines that focus on the home rank among the most common genre of magazine and they include publications dedicated to home design, home repair, home shopping, vacation homes, and more. One magazine that centers on home remodeling and related topics is Dwell Magazine, a publication with a modern twist.
Basic Contents of This Magazine: With about 130 pages in each issue, Dwell Magazine offers the following regular departments each month:
Letters In the Modern World My House Off the Grid Dwell Reports Design Finder Finishing Touch
The remaining pages of Dwell Magazine include about five or six featured articles that center on a specific theme for the month.
Online Information/Subscription Pricing:
Dwell Magazine can be found on the world wide web at the magazine's web site, dwell.com. The web site is much like the magazine, with special links for design ideas, homes, places, events, and more. There are ten issues published each year and a subscription can be started directly through the web site, if desired, for the base rate, which is around $20 per year. Most other magazine web sites offer Dwell Magazine for the same price.
Final Thoughts: I receive a large number of magazines each month and among them, the theme that is most commonplace is the home. This isn't surprising when you consider the large number of publications dedicated to the home and the high level of consumer interest in our places of residence. I have my favorites among them and Dwell Magazine is one of a few that I will return to throughout the month for entertainment and other purposes.
Subtitled "A Home in the Modern World", Dwell Magazine is a publication about the modern home. However, Dwell Magazine takes the idea of "modern" to a slightly different level than other, similar publications such as Metropolitan Home. With Dwell Magazine, the reader is presented with unusual homes, both on the exterior and interior, and many of them are certainly eye- catching, if nothing else. This magazine is all about homes that offer distinction and some of the design ideas are very interesting.
Parts of Dwell Magazine concentrate on remodeling rooms and other parts focus on building a new home from the ground up. It takes effort to find a contractor that can create these unusual houses, but Dwell Magazine helps its readers achieve their dream with plenty of references in each issue. You may not want to go to the point of building a new home, but would like to remodel a room with a more unusual design. Dwell Magazine helps you reach your goal with many different design ideas that range from practical to weird and beyond.
Probably the most unique fact about Dwell Magazine is that, while it focuses on unusual and creative home design, it manages to maintain a level of livability. Many magazines like this would take the weirdness factor to the extreme, resulting in a magazine full of design oddities that would be too edgy for the average reader to consider. But Dwell Magazine avoids making this mistake. The ideas it presents are unusual and creative, but still within the boundaries of taste and practicality.
One other interesting aspect of Dwell Magazine is that each magazine is based on a specific theme for the month, and this theme is spelled out on the front cover, directly under the magazine's name, in bold letters. Thus, you already have a good idea what to expect when you open the pages of any issue. Of course, you will still get the monthly departments, which can focus on any type of theme, but the featured articles for the month will stick to the main theme for that particular issue.
Overall, I am happy I got to know Dwell Magazine and I rank it among my favorite home- related publications. I'm not into home design, at least not in the sense of building a home or doing the remodeling work myself. But I do like to look at homes and the rooms within homes and I am always open to new ideas. Dwell Magazine offers plenty of creative ideas every month and it's a good magazine to consult for design ideas. It offers a certain degree of edginess without going so far that it alienates most readers.
