I love Biography magazine.
We get so many magazines. I spend hours on the phone trying to cancel most of them. Half of what we get I never even ordered; they just appear each month. Some days my arms ache from flipping through mindless drivel about lipstick, perfume, jeans, jewelry......and how you can become one of the lucky ones to wear what your favorite star wears. PULEASE......I need something I can read; something to learn from but that still is entertaining and puts a smile on my face or makes me say things like, "Oh, I always wondered about that!"
Enter....Biography. Don't get me wrong. I like to hear about famous people too. I like knowing what they think and how they feel about social issues. But I like to learn these things in an intelligent manner. Biography magazine delivers without all the fluff. There are not endless ads trying to sell me notions and trinkets. There is a wide variety of people and topics covered that keeps it interesting issue after issue. It's not just a constant barrage of who met whom at which event and who was wearing the worst make-up or the slinkiest dress, like some other magazines do. It's intelligent, concise, entertaining and above all leaves you feeling like you've learned something.
Specifics? I like the personal profiles they do. They're short and quick and give you an idea of what each person is like without boring you to tears. I like the section where they ask a particular star different things they would take with them on a deserted island. It's fun and adds a little humor to the reading. I love to get the whole next month's list of who's being featured in the TV show, Biography. There's also a full length article on someone from history that never fails to be interesting.
