| Neenkena's Full Review: Caretaker Gazette The Magazine |
I first came across this magazine or flyer and I call it at the hospital waiting for my mammogram. At first I thought it was a joke. Who in their right mind would want to take care of an island on their vacation? Maybe not me but it could prove to be a worth while adventure!
At first glance I thought it was a magazine for caregivers that just ad a unique twist to the title. Boy was I wrong!
THE CARETAKER GAZETTE was first published in 1983. Currently it is the ONLY magazine solely devoted to caretakers of property, housesitters, and landowners. For vacationing families on a budget this may be the answer for you.
Some property owners will offer a caretaker a rent-free stay in exchange for property upkeep or maintenance. Places to stay range from Mansions to farms as well as resort homes, hunting lodges or private islands. I would venture to say if you can dream of a perfect vacation spot, someone needs a sitter!
On average THE CARETAKER GAZETTE boasts an average of 130 new listings for caretakers in each issue as well as an average of 800 listings worldwide. Wonder if we could find a place in England? Talk about a summer trip!
Profiles of people wanting to become caretakers are readily available for a sitter hunter. The profiles are detailed with dates of birth, hobbies and interests. In reading some of the profiles it almost seems like people are indentured servants. In exchange for chores or duties they are given room and board. One family has a three-month tour on an island and they take their children out of school for the last month of the school year. The children get to do their school work and send it in when completed.
THE CARETAKER GAZETTE is published bi-monthly at a cost of $29 a year or two years for $49, or three years for $69. They will accept checks or money orders for subscriptions. If you prefer you may pay with Paypal. They also accept credit card orders but you must call in to place an order this way.
THE CARETAKER GAZETTE has classified ads that cost $0.65 a word per issue. I think that is a little steep but I am not in the advertising business. The ads that are displayed start at $65 for a 2.25" wide by 1.5" height sized display ad, or $130 for a 2.25" wide by 3" height sized display ad. That is not much space but I guess you could scrunch a brief job description in that space.
They charge $275 for a 8½" X 11" tri-folded insert that is included in the current issue of THE CARETAKER GAZETTE. These inserts are folded into thirds. This makes it easier for them to be inserted into the mailing envelope. My question is how many inserts do I get for $275? I would guess you get how ever many subscribers they have that bi-monthly period.
THE CARETAKER GAZETTE does have a web site. The site is well done with some beautiful pictures of glorious homes. Maybe one is in your future!
