Look out guys its the COSMOPOLITAN magazine. The only thing I have found men like about the magazine is the cover. There is always a girl half dressed showing tons of cleavage. It does not matter though because this is one strictly for women. I really think they could come up with a more women friendly cover then what they do.
I am really writing this to express my opinion on how this magazine should not fall into the wrong hands. Such as a teenage girl or an impressionable young women. Even though it has some really good information in some articles, it could also really mess some ladies up.
I will start by saying that I can take it or leave it. Some women look towards Cosmo as if it were the Holy bible. Others hate it and avoid it as if it were the plague. I have never known a man who likes it. Any time my honey sees a copy laying on our coffee table he runs in fear. He tends to think Cosmo is teaching us women to be man haters. Little does he know almost every issue tries to teach us how to please our man, and worship him like the God he really is. I get such a kick out of articles like that.
What you will find in EVERY issue: You will find great articles on health and fitness. There are always fun quiz's to help you discover things about yourself or your man. I normally do not take the quiz's to seriously. In every issue you will also find loads of information on love, relationships and SEX!!!
Why it makes men so mad? Well Cosmo's bad reputation among men may come from how they sometimes seem to be giving women ideas of how to live on the wild side. A great example of this would be an ongoing story they have had in the last few issues I have read. The main character in this story is a woman who spends her time juggling men and playing the field. There is more to it than that but I am just trying to make a point.
I do enjoy reading my Cosmo. I will not die if I miss a few issues, but I do try to buy it when I can. A couple of years ago I actually had a subscription. I paid around 20.00 for 12 issues. It is worth it, but I did not renew as there were more important things to spend my money and Cosmo just was not top priority.
My favorite articles: I would have to say the ones on health and fitness go over well with me. They do cover many topics that are important to me and I am sure other women too. They have covered some that I think some women would even be embarrassed bringing up with their Dr. They also help women decide whether something is normal or if it is time to see a Dr. They have shown in a few different issues about breast cancer and how to do self exams. Cosmo has covered sexually transmitted diseases and the common yeast infection. With all of the sex they promote I believe covering STD's are definitely a good idea. I have seen articles that help women better understand their bodies and even their menstrual cycle. (Are the men running away now???)
My least favorite articles: Oh well it would have to be the ones about love, relationships and SEX and yeah the ones about sex too. There are a lot of those. Cosmo really does not have a clue in these areas. Sometimes they are telling women to be strong and show their intelligence. Then they will turn around and tell us how to basically trap a man. As if that will make for a long term good relationship. Sometimes they seem to believe in good values. Then they will go off into another land where monogamy is the furthest thing from any of the writers minds. I just love the articles that seem to be guiding women to be more like the stereotypical male. This day in age I do not think it is wise to promote and encourage the I am an airhead but I have big boobs "Wanna go to bed?" kind of attitude. Cosmo has gone there on many occasions. Sometimes there articles that claim the women are bold and stand up for themselves are nothing more than women sleeping around. One more thing that I do not like.... How do I please my man? Oh my goodness please please don't fall into this one. They cover this topic at least once every 3 issues. Most of the good stuff you can figure out on your own and are no big surprise. Then there are some others that I have asked my boyfriend about. Well in his opinion Cosmo is nuts. He kindly asked me to check with him before surprising him with any of Cosmos grand ideas......
The ads: It is a good thing I don't buy into all the miracle cures for bigger chest size, stretch marks, cellulite, losing weight, etc. Cosmo is full of ads to make you "prettier". I guess this is another way you can trap a man or please the one you have trapped. One good thing they have is perfume ads with samples. I love those because I hate paying a huge amount of money for a bottle of perfume just to find out I hate it or it wears off quickly.
Overall: It is a good read if you can read between the lines. If you are easily persuaded into following the advice of every magazine you pick up then well don't pick it up. If taken too seriously it could have bad effects on your life. If you have an open mind and are aware just because you are reading it does not make it true or real good advice then go for it. The quiz's are fun and good to occupy some boredom time. The health articles are wonderful basically my main reason for buying the magazine. Oh they also have different advice columns these are sometimes good and sometimes well sometimes you will just have to laugh at them. Speaking of funny.... You will read many articles that they were striving for seriousness that will make you roll out of your chair laughing.
