This is crochet heaven
Written: Sep 02 '01
Pros:Patterns galore, easy to read instructions, pictures of finished projects.
Cons:Needs more patterns. Hey, I had to try...
The Bottom Line: Anyone desiring to try new projects should get a copy of this magazine. They will more than likely enjoy it like I do.
If you love to crochet, this is a fantastic magazine. I’m a person who loves Autumn and Christmas and when the Fall issues of Crochet Fantasy arrive, everyone knows where I am – studying those issues like it’s final exam week in college.
I learned to crochet several years ago. My mother, bless her heart, was (and still is) exceedingly patient as mothers of children like me have to be. I’m sure many a night it echoed in her mind, “How do you do a double crochet again?” Well, I found a magazine that, when my mother wasn’t available, could answer that question and many more about the different crochet stitches. I was perfectly happy to crochet afghans forever until one day I truly got flat sick of it. “Isn’t there ANYTHING else I can do?” I asked. Then Mom came to the rescue with this magazine.
This magazine eventually has it all – just give it a full year and the projects will change with the seasons, Santa and Elves at Christmas and bright colors and flowers for Spring. I’m even partial to the Spring and Summer issues because they have the cutest things to make. Not every issue is a stellar event but most will have a project or two a crochet nut will fall for or just have a hankering to try.
It is dedicated to both yarn and thread crochet and has patterns for beginner, intermediate and advanced. The patterns are very easy to understand and aren’t printed in microscopic print. They provide color photos of the projects (for people like me it’s a blessing). The level of difficulty and all materials needed for each project are stated at the beginning of a pattern. Also provided are the measurements of the project upon completion and all the stitches used. Beginners to crochet will find the stitch guide included in each issue extremely useful. It includes everything from the Chain Stitch to the Popcorn to the Triple-Knotted Fringe. The diagrams and instructions for stitches are well written and illustrated. The book even has a Conversion Chart to convert inches to centimeters and a Crochet Hook Conversion Chart so everyone can benefit from this magazine.
A sampling of patterns Crochet Fantasy has:
Afghans
Sweaters and other attire, even for pets.
Fridgies – or refrigerator magnets
Potholders
Doilies
Tableclothes
Dolls
Toys
Totebags
At Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas there are all manner of centerpieces, toys, and decorations to accentuate Autumn and the holidays.
Their web site is: http://www.crochetfantasy.com/ which offers visitors a few free patterns to whet the appetite as well as subscription information. You can’t subscribe online but can call an 800 number. There is a printable coupon for mail-in subscriptions.
The subscription is $21.97 for 9 issues (1 year), according to the web site – I've subscribed for years and extended the subscription a few years so I had to refer back to the site. Canadian orders are $30.97 and foreign orders are $35.47, and to quote them, “US Funds ONLY”. Cranky little fellers, aren’t they? This information is current as of September 2, 2001, so please check the site for verification on rates.
If a person loves to crochet I cannot, in my wildest dreams, imagine them not enjoying this magazine.
