I am a landscape designer and gardener who works in a nursery. As such, I get to read and subscribe to virtually every gardening-oriented magazine out there. Some I read for the beautiful photographs (mostly of gardens I could only aspire to if I had the money), some I read for the actual information and tips. Garden Gate is one of the latter.
In fact, of all the magazines I subscribe to (Fine Gardening, Horticulture, Garden Gate, Better Homes and Gardens, Country Gardens, et al), this is the one I keep back issues of.
For the beginner, this magazine is full of well-explained tips, techniques and cultural information. For the more experienced gardener, there are always new and interesting articles on how to use combinations of plants, how to handle some technical aspect of gardening, and always a few great tips from other readers.
Furthermore, when I am stuck for what to do with a particular garden design, this magazine is always there to give me a kick-start. There are always one or two great and simple designs incorporated into the issue.
