Gun List
The Gun List is a tabloid-sized bi-weekly periodical that focuses on the world of buying and selling guns and accessories.
Like its rival, the Shotgun News, the Gun List started out as a conglomeration of individual classified ads with large display ads taking up major portions of the paper. Today, both publications have the same type classified ads and display ads but have added articles by noted authors on various subjects surrounding the shooting sports.
The current issue, July 14, 2006, has articles on the .44 Special Revolver Cartridge; German WWII P38 Pistols; the Detonics Combat Master Pistol; the Right to Keep and Bear Arms; Starter .22 Rifles; Turkey Calling; Reloading, and other subjects, as well as an editorial column, monthly columns like Readers Comments, Book Reviews; Questions and Answers, Ask the Expert; Cartridge News, and so on.
The ads are classified by manufacturer and model, and include entries for MISCELLANEOUS, ACCESSORIES, AIR GUNS, AMMUNITION, RELOADING COMPONENTS and a hundred other things related to guns and shooting, as well as nearly every make and model firearm having its separate section.
This arrangement is in alphabetic-numeric order and makes sense for both those zeroing in on a particular model, as well as for casual browsers. Most pages also contain display ads from commercial companies that offer their goods and services to the readers. In addition to commercial firearms and accessories there are lots of offerings of military surplus from both private sellers and commercial concerns.
A minor con are the non-firearm related ads mixed in with the rest, similar to your local Trading Times, or whatever your local area gives out for free. Things like: HOW TO GET RICH; YOUR LUCKY NUMBERS; HOROSCOPE; BUY MILITARY SURPLUS FOR PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR; GET FREE GOVERNMENT INFORMATION; MAKE MONEY IN REAL ESTATE WITH NO MONEY DOWN and similar usually worthless information, similar to the chain letters youve probably seen.
You should know that buying guns from out of state are subject to the Federal Firearms Laws that prohibit and individual receiving a firearm through the mail, so you need to arrange for a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) to receive your firearms. Usually most pawnshops have an FFL and will gladly do it for a nominal sum. Similarly, you as seller can ship your guns yourself, but the receiver must be an FFL. The way it works is the FFL sends you a copy of his license, then you ship. Recently, FAX copies of FFLs have been considered acceptable, but earlier you had to have an ink signed copy of the receiving FFL. Check with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) if you have any questions.
Gun List as well as the Shotgun News is a good way to keep up with the latest prices and trends in the world of firearms. The periodical is published 26 times a year, runs a couple hundred pages, and a one-year subscription costs somewhere around $34, or just over a dollar an issue. They also have a two month trial subscription you can try. You get 4 issues for $7.00.
