Heavy Metal is a Science Fiction/ Fantasy short story collection comic that is issued bi-monthly. It fills a niche that no soft core porn magazine has approached, naked fantasy girls. If you are looking for hardcore sex this is not the comic book, but if you want quality science fiction and fantasy with a saturation of scantily clad women and sexual situations this is your magazine. The authors and artists are cycled so the content is highly varied visually as well as the story content and subject focus.
I enjoy heavy metal for it's variety as well as it's sense of humor. While many stories are brutal and graphic these are frequently balanced out with lighthearted and sometimes even whimsical stories that add an enjoyable contrast to the reading experience.
My only complaint against Heavy Metal is that many of their sectional stories (the ones ending in: To be continued...) don't follow an even pattern of publication, so you, as a reader, may have to wait for two or three more issues before finding out if the heroine is killed or not. This normally would not be so bad except, with only six issues published a year (excluding special edition releases) sometimes a story will carry on for a good half year while only being written about once or twice.
