I grew up reading this here magazine and I'm sad to say they've finally ruined it! I've picked it up a few times in the last year to see what it's like and it's just awful. I could call it names but none would do it justice! I don't know if some other company bought it out or if they just decided to get PC but they sure as hell put in some overtime work on taking what once was the most cutting edge magazine out there and turning into the 97 pound weakling of fantasy mags.
For you folks that don't know anything about this magazine, it's supposed to be an "adult fantasy and sci-fi" mag. Sort of like EERIE or CREEPY for grown ups. Well, that's what it was for about 20 years before it turned into what it is now, and I don't even know what that is!
As far as storytelling, there ain't none! They used to feature some of the best writers in the business but I think now they'll just pay anybody that wants to write about a monster or an alien. When it comes to the art, guess what? Ain't none! HM used to be known just for the strength of it's cover art and when you peeked inside, the art got even better! These days they only get slacker versions of Frank Frazetta!
I'd tell y'all that you can at least line your birdcages with it but it would bore your bird to death so please don't do that! The only folks that read this magazine are sci-fi nerds that think "Xena-Warrior Princess" is a well written series!
