I used to read Heavy Metal every month. I admit that I haven't read it very often lately. They just haven't been as good as in their peak. There don't seem to be any Moebius' or Corbens out there anymore.
Most of what I have seen is very well illustrated, and as an artist I can really appreciate the talent, but the writing has been sort of flat. The same style stories over and over.
I have every issue from their first in the late seventies until the mid eighties, and when I compare the two, the present issues fall short. The artwork is still as amazing as ever, although the originality of greats like Moebius or Drulliet is missing, the stories, again, leave something to be desired. Lots of bizarre mysticism involving naked women. Don't get me wrong, nudity was always a part of Heavy Metal's appeal to me as a teenager, but it seems that every piece must have nudity for it's own sake now.
I'll continue to read Heavy Metal and recommend it highly, I just wish I could open an issue once and see "Incal Light" or "Den".
