This month's May In Style magazine arrived in my mailbox featuring actress Renee Zelwegger as this months cover model. It's a beautifully shot cover , featuring the work of famed photographer, Matthew Rolston. Renee is the featured reviewer and she talks of her new movie (Bridget Jones Diary), past movies and her much publicized brake up with actor Jim Carrey. My only complaint (and because it's my business), is that her hair is a mess! She has an eight page spread in the magazine and her hair is flat, hanging in her face, and to top it all off, she has three inch black roots! I don't get it - magazines pay top dollar for clothing stylists, hairdressers, makeup artists and sometimes, manicurists, all to make their photos look incredible! The top hairdressers and makeup artists in New York are making...$5,000 a day! In Style deserves a refund from this hairdresser!...sorry I had to get that off my chest ...and now on with the review!
I love this magazine because it always keeps me up to date on the latest fashions( who's wearing what and where they wore it), beauty reports (on the latest hair and makeup trends), a peek inside celebrity homes, and shopping, travel, and entertaining guides are in every issue. It's kind of like, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous meets Inside Edition! Most importantly ( at least in the editors' eyes) in every issue, you can buy what the stars buy, shop where the stars shop, eat what and where the stars shop, cook what the stars cook and party like the stars party! This is voyeurism at it's finest, all available at your favorite newsstand!
Some of my favorite sections include;
Beauty talk - which features a celebrity discussing their favorite makeup, haircare and skincare products, how they eat and exercise, etc.. this month's featured celebrity was (a brunette) Christina Applegate, from Married with Children.
Transformations -a look back in time at all the transformations actresses have gone through over the years. Funny what hairstyles can do to you!
Steal This Look - I love this because this page allows me to see what beauty products the top film hairstylists and makeup artists use on certain actresses and how they achieve that look.
Hair & now - what the best tressed locks are wearing this year and how you can create that look.
Beauty report - this month they featured informative articles on self-tanning creams and how to properly apply them and a great article on treating acne yourself.
With May being the month of Mothers day, a special section was devoted to Hollywood moms, where we see beautiful black and white photos of mothers and daughters in a new book entitled, Hollywood Moms by photographer, Joyce Ostin. Also in this section you get a peek at some of the hottest baby gifts going and a chance to see some of your favorite movie stars pregnant! It's called Return to Slender, and they share their secrets on how to lose those extra post baby pounds.
This months Fashion Report - features:
A Day at the Beach, and how to find that perfect swimsuit for your body type.
Behind the scenes at New Yorks Fashion Week and the celebs that were in attendance.
Stylefile -features:
The trendiest shoes, jewelry and fashion tips on just the right outfit to wear to certain events.
I subscribe to two "fashion" magazines, this and Allure (you can check out my review on that when you're done reading this!) and one industry magazine, Makeup Artist Magazine. I had to cut down on my subscriptions only because with working and two kids, I have very little free time to myself! Every month I look forward to receiving In Style and if you're into style and fashion, you will find this magazine to be very informative and even useful and one I highly recommend, especially if you love celebrity news!
