"Girls who dare to be real"? Come on, give me a break. Just by reading their slogan you think that it would be a good confidence builder, but I beg to differ. Come on... Just guess how many pictures of beautiful, underweight, blonde, women they have. Too many, that's how many. I strongly believe that teenage women should read something that boosts their confidence, instead of showing them "role models" and actresses they should look up to.
Once I read an article in Jump that was titled "Queen for a Day." This article described a young man who was homosexual and dressed like a woman. It explained how his school didn't want him to run for prom queen instead of king. Not to be predigest, but why would they put an article about a "guy who dares to be a girl" in a magazine for "girls who dare to be real"? Tell me that and I might read the magazine.
I have also seen "make-overs" in Jump, and in these they take a girl and curl her hair and put make up on her. Why would anyone want to see a before picture (before the girl is ready to go out in public) and an after picture (after the girl had done herself up)? There isn't even much of a difference in the pictures and they should be giving these girls mind make overs instead of face make overs. They should be putting better things into the young women of this world! What are we going to do when no one looks further than the face or deeper than the voice? The (majority) of us aren't "beautiful" like most people define it, but all of us have beauty deep inside us, beautiful hearts and minds.
I will rate this magazine a two just to give the editors credit for trying.
I would recommend any teenage girl to go read a book instead of a magazine these days, a book that actually has words that mean something.
