jade_stone's Full Review: Kitchen & Bath Design News Magazine
I confess, I'm pretty sorry about coming up with grand new ideas when it comes to remodeling a room I spend so little time in. (both the kitchen AND the bathroom) Now that I have a 1920s farmhouse to play with, I find myself scrambling for ideas, and more often than not, buying every home decor rag I can find. So far, Kitchen & Bath Design seems to be the one I buy again and again.
Not because I can recreate any of their gorgeous designs. Unfortunately, none of those geese in the pond out back have learned the art of laying golden eggs, but when they do... I buy this magazine to dream, and to kick my creativity into gear. I know I have the gene, it just seems to have gotten left behind at Tahoe. (and who could blame it?)
Judging from the redone rooms portrayed in this magazine, it would seem they believe we all have bathrooms the size of large bedrooms, and kitchens that were designed for professional chefs. While my kitchen is large, the primary bathroom is typical for a house built when slipper tubs were in use. SMALL with zero cabinets. I was resigned to the fact that I would never get any storage space in that can.
After ogling a few Kitchen&Bath mags, it occurred to me that I had more space than I thought, it was simply mismanaged. Granted, my new layout requires I move the toilet to another wall, and have a custom shower built in with custom cabinets, but hey! This mag gave me hope! No more stacking the towels on the back of the toilet, yes I too can have cabinets for them. Thank god I'm good with a router and various other power tools though, because these modifications would cost an easy $20,000 if I had to farm it out.
I guess what I'm saying, is if you want to dream about redecorating and design you can actually afford someday, this is the magazine you. You won't need to spend $30,000 in an antique shop for that perfect picture, or have an entire wing added on to your home, to achieve the looks they display. Granted, you'll need a serious budget to imitate any of their works, but if you can do any of it yourself, you'll find a wealth of ideas for everything from a modern townhome to a turn of the century farmhouse. It's a great mag to kickstart your imagination into reworking your own place, and a fantastic source for links to various distributors of everything from architectural salvage to custom counters to made to order windows.
