Mimi369's Full Review: Maxim Magazine Subscription
I recently started receiving a ton of magazines on a trial basis through Priceline.com. Most of the magazines I had heard of before and didn't mind a free subscription to. The magazine that came through the mail stream into my mailbox yesterday was one that, believe it or not, I had never heard of. Curiosity got the best of me and I decided to check it out.
What intrigued me most about this hefty colorful magazine was the cover. I was wondering who this lovely young woman was with her breasts so fully exposed. As I began to read some of the cover titles to the stories covered in this magazine, I then realized that Maxim is a magazine for men!! Please don't laugh. Call me naive, but for some reason I did not see the spot just under the title that said For Men!!
The title that I especially liked was the one entitled Topless Models, only to discover that the article covers a story of the latest new convertible automobiles that were recently road tested!! "Hey!", I thought to myself, "this magazine has a great sense of humor." My other favorite title is called Fore Play, and no it was not about what you were thinking. This surprising little article was about America's wildest golf weekends!! Needless to say, I dared to peek into the innerds of the magazine to see just what this was really all about.
Just inside the cover page are scantily dressed women who are the cutey pies of the WB Network. Girls like, Garcelle Bouvais from The Jamie Fox Show, Alyssa Milano from Charmed and Sarah Michelle Gellar from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, just to name a few. I was emabarrased that I was still browsing this magazine. There was something about Maxim that kept me flipping pages.
Maybe it was the thick high quality paper used to make this magazine...Hmmm..Or perhaps it was the advertisements for sneakers, pens, motorcycles, cars and liquor.....Well...actually it had to be the articles. I found two articles that I read from beginning to end. Both were well written and gripping. I am a fan of James Patterson who writes about serial murders. The article entitled, The Evil in Elephant Butte was riveting. I greatly enjoyed the photo spread and the attention to detail in this horrific true story of rape, sodomy, torture and murder in a small town in south central New Mexico. The second was a hilarious feature on what women really want in a man's, phallus. I will not go into any great detail here...Use your imagination..
Needless to say, I passed Maxim on to my husband who was wondering what the heck was holding my interest so long. He enjoyed the humor, and of course the photos. He never did get to the articles. It seems that in my household, Maxim has replaced Newsweek! The similarities between Maxim and Playboy magazine are many. But, at least there were no totally naked gals hanging out in this magazine. The magazine price is a hefty $3.99! My free subscription will expire soon and we will not renew! If you are interested in a subscription, Maxim offers a dozen magazines a year for a mere $17.94.
For anyone interested in a magazine full of humor, great ads, well written entertaining articles, and decent classy glossy photos of semi-clad ladies, check out Maxim. You will not be disppointed, and as surprising as it seems, neither was I!
