After years of peeking at trashy articles in Cosmopolitan at the supermarket checkout line, men finally have the equivalent, Maxim magazine. I'm a charter subscriber to Maxim (saving Issue One as a collectible) and have enjoyed every month for the last three years. Each issue is packed with tasteless jokes, wild travel articles, reviews of the latest toys, sexual advice and of course, the prerequisite "babe pictorial"
The first year or so Maxim was out, it was untouchable. I would literally roll on the floor in laughter while I read it. Who can forget the article/pictorial about the guy who got breast implants to win a $10,000 bet? Or the offbeat Head to Head sidebars, remember Ricky Martin vs. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi? (PS: The mongoose won!) Throw in the beautiful women that have graced it's covers (Rebecca Gayheart, Shannon Elizabeth, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bridget Fonda and Donna D'errico) and you can't help but crack it open for a read...
Yes, it can be vulgar, trashy and juvenile but that's what makes it so funny. I'm finding that more and more women read the magazine to gain some insight on men. It's mainly for single males between 20 - 40, who like their toys but appeals to all guys. I've already purchased three gift subscriptions and they are all hooked on Maxim. While there are other competitors out now: Men's Health, Stuff, Gear, GQ, none do it as well as Maxim. Due to the fact that I am a longtime subscriber, I pay under $15/year and it is money very well spent...
