It’s decidedly a men’s magazine, but you ladies may occasionally want to leaf through it a the newsstand or steal away with your partner’s copy. After all, what’s life without an occasional thrill? Whether you like your men shirt-off or in a stylish Polo or Tommy-Hilfiger, you just might enjoy a little peek at these exceptionally buff guys.
What’s in Here Anyway?
Weightlifting and fitness are definitely the primary topics in every issue of Men’s Health. Although you’ll find articles on nutrition, sex, health, men’s fashion, dating, and relationships, the primary focus is on working out and building muscle. It’s not a hard-core bodybuilding magazine filled with backbreaking workouts and steroid supplements. This one is for the rest of us who want to stay (or become) fit and trim. You’ll find that the editors maintain a good balance between overall health, fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle. Men’s Health seems to promote a balanced healthy lifestyle rather than extremes.

I’ve seen some of their other publications, and they are straightforward, practical, and up-to-date. If you are the type of person who’s always looking for more information about health and fitness, you’ll be happy as can be.

You can sign up for the Belly Off Club and receive a weekly email with tips about that rippled midsection you always dreamed of. Links take you to the Men’s Health web site where you can get more information. But beware! You’ll definitely be offered something else to buy. Men’s Health is a very effective marketing organization.
You’re Stylin’!
Writing Style: The writing style in Men’s Health is direct, realistic, helpful, and humorous. It’s written conversationally, and that makes it easy and enjoyable to read. You’ll never encounter a difficult or scholarly article – just plain talk.
Fashion: You’ll find a section on men’s fashion in every issue, but it is clearly not the magazine’s primary focus. The fashion section is more likely to feature a youthful, informal look with brands like Tommy Hilfiger or Polo by Ralph Lauren. Look for casual wear and blazers, but don’t expect fine Italian leather dress shoes or a three-piece suit.
Sex…
Were you expecting perhaps a magazine without sex? Duh! This is a magazine for men, and I certainly don’t know any men without a healthy interest in sex. You’ll find several articles on the subject in every issue, ranging from how to please her in bed to tips about dating and relationships.
As far as photography goes, I haven’t seen any actual nudity in the magazine, but you’ll certainly get an eyeful of lingerie. If it is glamorous lingerie photos you’re looking for though, you’ll be happier with Maxim or Stuff. (Or so I’m told! HaHa)
Man to Man
When the editors of Men’s Health have something to say, they say it! It’s a men’s magazine, after all, so don’t expect them to go pussyfooting around the issues. They’ll be direct, clear, and up front with you. There’s no reading between the lines, or wondering about the nuances of a phrase or paragraph. There’s no in-depth analysis. It’s all just straight talk from man to man.
Have a Beer!
While the primary focus of the magazine is health and fitness, the guys at Men’s Health are just like you. They readily admit to having a beer sometimes instead of going to the gym, sneaking a look at that hot waitress while having dinner with their wife or girlfriend, and all the other things that are just a part of being a guy. The writing style assumes you’re a regular person too, not some model of perfection. They know we’re not all calendar hunks either, so their advice is practical rather than idealistic.
