I learned (Reply to this comment)

a lot from this magazine. In '79, I wrote and received payment for an article and photo I did for them. They were nice people. Not because they bought my article (well, maybe a little) but because they were happy to help a newbie writer. Those folks were as friendly as they portrayed themselves to be in their magazine. I'm sorry to hear about the "shake-up" there. I agree with you, I can't see them folding the magazine, at least I hope not. I haven't read it in a long time. Thanks for the links, I'm going to check them out. And thanks for reviewing a great magazine.

When I was in Oklahoma working on a campaign I saw Chickens in backyards.
I said a little prayer:
DEAR LORD, may I never become that WHITE TRASH.

Just Like 'Organic Gardening' (Reply to this comment)

You say:
The articles are short but pack a lot of information into a small space.
Sounds like my reviews(w/o all that information).
You, on the other, hand have done a terrific job.

I had no idea that an Organic magazine could have a strong enough readership to keep going over such a long period of time (I mean, organic is rather chic now, but 1942?).
I used to fill in at an organic restaurant nearby (which is now closed, unfortunately) and was really blown away by how MUCH effort went into the farming, things that I already suspected but took for granted (like hand-squishing bugs so as not to use pesticide).
Great review, too! :)

I used to subscribe to the old fashioned Workbasket magazine. It had needlework, recipies, gardening and preserving...etc. Well, right after I did, they changed first the size of it, so it would no longer fit in a workbasket, then the format, merging it with another more modern needlework magazine, then they finally gave up the ghost entirely.
I hope yours fares better (and doesn't forget its roots!)

Yes - their magazine is a little thing right now, but I'm sure that, with enough articles on compost, it will grow!
Always happy to hear from someone who "gets" it!
Thanks!
