bobnewman's Full Review: Outside Magazine Subscription
Outside magazine has been around for quite some time and was the first of its genre, i.e., a magazine that revolves around outdoor sports such as climbing, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, and so on. The magazine has a very clear market: Mostly young, well-to-do, college-educated men who like adventure sports and buy lots of gear to assist them when participating in their favorite outdoors activity.
The best thing about Outside is Randy Wayne White. A marvelous writer with a cutting-edge sense of humor and adventure, I have read his work for a long time. His new book, Batfishing in the Rainforest, is great.
I do wish more of the magazine's staff were true outdoor types who practice what they preach. Many just aren't into doing what they edit or otherwise prepare for their readers every month. It would be a better magazine if they would get outside more often.
If you like outdoor adventure, humor, advice, and stories, Outside isn't too shabby.
