| hearseman's Full Review: PSM-100% Independent PlayStation Magazine |
I was fortunate enough to get this magazine for free. I participate in a site called Qool.com where I get points that can be used to get stuff like magazine subscriptions. PSM was available so I got one for myself and one for my cousin. Even if not, a 1 year subscription is only 10 bucks. The cover price is $4.99US.
After looking at a few issues, I find that this is a great video game magazine for Playstation 2. Unlike many other rags, it is dedicated to only the PS2. This means that you get more in depth coverage of games and accessories. With the other guys, you have to muddle through XBox and GameCube junk. This has all you are looking for in regard to PS2.
The magazine offers reviews of released games. You can get an idea of whether or not you will spend your hard earned cash to buy a game. The reviews are detailed and give screen captures.
Regardless of what a review may say, I ALWAYS suggest you rent it first. 6 bucks is a lot better than chunking down 50 for a sucky game. If you do get stuck doing getting a bad game, just call the warranty number in the back of your instructions. They will send you a sealed copy so you can return it or you can have them send you a copy of a different title they make.
Another section is Previews. This tells you about games coming out soon. Some they have had the opportunity to test first, so you can be ready when it comes out. There is also a list of upcomming titles going months into the future.
At the back there are cheat codes for a few select games. Some are helpful, others you already know about because you looked them up on the internet the same day you brought your new game home.
The fourth area of game information is the ads. Now, they are not unbiased, but they do provide a good deal of information. Manytimes I look at an ad and determine whether or not I will buy. All of the advertisements are relevant.
