"Car of the Future? The M400 Skycar promises to revolutionize your commute." This was the headline of the March, 2000 issue of Popular Science. Dubbed the "What's New" magazine, you can find many articles on the leading edge of automobiles, computers and medicine.
I have always subscribed to Information Technology Week and other IT publications, but never thought of myself as a candidate for Popular Science. However I received a sample copy a year ago and I liked what I saw. Each issue has a nice layout with many color pictures and illustrations. While car articles do not generally interest me, I mark those pages and pass them on to my sons. The computer articles are very much like the articles I read in PC Computing and PC Week. I am always on the lookout for articles that deal with drinking water discoveries and advances.
Typical articles include:
Medicine & Health ---
A story about the brain refers to recent studies that show on an average the inferior parietal lobule region is larger in men than in women. This is linked with a person's ability to estimate time, judge speed, visualize in three dimensions, and solve math problems. Albert Einstein's IPL was larger than most.
Another article of interest was Surgeons now mend broken hearts without making big incisions or even, in some cases stopping the heart ---complete with pictures and illustrations.
June Issue
1. Five Year Guide to Space Missions --- Where we're going, how we'll get there and what we'll learn.
2. Superfast Internet Access --- real time movies, games and music.
3. Personal Planes --- cheaper, safer, easier to fly.
The "What New Section" Includes; Titanium Tough Master locks to "Baby Speak", a cuddly toy that exposes ten month old babies to sounds from French, Spanish, and Japanese. Also a Well water Sanitizer water conditioning system that can kill bacteria, filter the water and and the softener traps ion, manganese and calcium.
Do I read every article? No! Only those that interest me or pertain to drinking water concerns and issues. In today's world, time is money. I learned to skim magazines along time ago, otherwise I would never have the time or energy to keep abreast of new thoughts and ideas. I will often keep back issues for future reference. #3.99/issue published by the Times Mirror Magazines www.popsci.com AOL Keyword:popsci
