track_runner's Full Review: Reader's Digest Magazine
I'm the type of person that when I want to read something, I want it to capture my attention right away. I can't read a book that doesn't get interesting until I get to page 100. Well, the Reader's Digest is a magazine that has articles that will capture your attention from the very first paragraph.
One nice thing about them is that every month it is something different. It is never the same. One month you can read an article about a journey around Greenland, and then the next month you could read an article on how scientists are making advances on the cold virus. Each months material is something new.
The Reader's Digest has a variety of literature to read. The have everything from "Drama & Adventure", "People", "The Art of Living", to "Your Health". Take the March 2001 addition for example. There is an article all about the Beatles and how they portrayed their fame; to an artlce about an 11 yr. old boy saving his sister and father from a plane crash; to how to improve the quality of your bones. There is a variety of articles that you can read, and anyone in your family can find something enjoyable in each months issue.
Probably my favorite thing about the Reader's Digest is the fact that it has monthly pages of different jokes people send in. From made up tales to true life humors, each issue has a page here and there of them. They range from "Laughter, the Best Medicine"- all of made up jokes; "Humor in Uniform"- real life quirky stories from the military; "Campus Comedy"- real life quirky stories from schools and colleges; to "All in a Days Work"- stories from work with a humorous twist. Each month differs from the preceeding in its humorous content. These little humors also appear at the bottom of the page every so often.
Being able to have a magazine that doesn't just center around one topic is nice. It broadens your perspective on literature and allows you to get a taste of every catagory. Sometimes you will come acrossed articles that you don't find as enjoyable as others, but in each issue there is at least a few that will always interest you. Plus it isn't a very expensive magazine. The price on each magazine is $2.49, but when you order it yearly it is always cheaper. There is something for everyone in this magazine, and I would recommend you add this one right next to your Sports Illustrated or Woman's Day!
