I have been a Red Herring Subscriber for nearly 3 years and I love it. Why, well it has been consistently the best source of information on the high tech economy, (the only one that really matters) and the in depth section they do each month on a different market segment makes a great reference for research. They are very current on most high tech business issues. Now the caveat, they don't really understand technology, just the business of technology, so don't go here to find out what is the best high bandwidth communication method.
I am not a big fan of Jason Pontin, one of their editors. I even wrote him a nastygram once about an article on Gil Amelio (the man that took money from Apple and National). However, he is not so prominent that you can't ignore him.
If you work in Silicon Valley, invest in Silicon Valley or are fascinated by the high tech business, subscribe as soon as possible.
Like last June they did the top 100 companies of the new economy and had the usual suspects like Cisco and MSFT, but also some unexpected companies like Philips, Bloomberg, Buy.com, Tivo and others.
They even do what most magazines won't do, they evaluate the previous year's list and admit their mistakes.
Overall, a required guide to the valley. Yes, there are other mags now, but this is the original and best.
