Seventeen has been around since 1944 informing teen girls about what's hot, in fashion etc.
This is one of 2 teen magazines I subscribe too (Seventeen and CosmoGIRL). Unlike other magazines like YM, M,Teen People or Teen Vogue, Seventeen is more than just the latest teen superstar and fashion and beauty. It teaches girls to believe in themselves... at least it did for me. The new editor Atoosa is really supportive in teen girls and caters to all our magazine needs. Every month, you can get your celebrity gossip fix, the hottest fashion trends at reasonable prices for every budget and beauty tips and products that aren't extravagant. For crying out loud, they show you stuff from Wal-Mart!! How can it get any better! There are letters readers submit concerning issues of past months that they enjoyed or detested.
One great feature in the magazine is the freebies you can enter to win on their website and the fact that Canadian residents can enter as well. It would be great if they included international countries also.
Seventeen has something for everyone... even your mom!! There are cool and easy recipes to try (brownies, cookies, orange chicken, etc.) and ideas to decorate your room on a budget.
The magazine is published monthly and will definitely amuse your teen. The subscription price is really affordable about 10$ U.S. or 25$ CAN for 12 issues. Of course there are serious issues discussed in the magazine such as teen suicide, rape, drugs and alcohol. The mag teaches teens to be aware of dangerous situations by publishing a few stories each month about teen girls who have been through it. They also show girls from other countries to show what it's like to live there. It gives teens an excellent perspective on the rest of the world rather than hating it and being racist.
Then there is of course sex. It covers the issue very well by promoting abstinence but also promoting the use of birth control to teens who are going to do the deed anyway. From the letters written to the magazine, I'd say it's geared towards girls from the ages of 14-25. Some girls continue reading into their 20s and mothers read it also.
This magazine is very well written by people who know what they're talking about and not brainless idiots. This new editor is the most amazing!! As I say, if the editor's bad, so is the mag.
