| marsha32's Full Review: Teen Magazine |
My daughter first started getting Teen magazine in the mail 2 years ago. She's loved Teen from the first issue and literally begs me to renew when her subscription is up.
I appreciate Teen the most because I love to see her sit and read. She reads the magazine from cover to cover within days of receiving each issue in the mail. She has a special place in her room where she keeps old issues.
Now on to what you will find inside a typical Teen magazine. I am looking at the June 2001 issue as I write this. The first thing I see are 6 pages of advertising. Not bad, especially compared to some other magazines out there.
I then come to "your letters". This is where readers write in with comments on articles in previous issues. Seems in this issue of Teen there are a few teens out there with a problem with the schools teaching the theory of evolution.
Next comes what I like to call the beauty section. Here you will find suggestions on products to use, a question and answer section, tips for your hair, trends, and even more product suggestions.
In this issue's sex & body section it talks about yeast infection. It tells you dos and don'ts. It also talks about your period. Informative information for teens.
Now I find an article entitled "Summer's Sexiest Movies". Does my teen really need to know what these are? I'm not sure on this one. Good for me to read over if she is asking me to go to a movie!
The next 2 articles are also very informative. One is entitled "danger: the risk of being a teenage girl" It gives great advice on how to avoid being kidnapped, having your purse snatched etc. The next one is entitled "Drugged and Raped" and explains about the date-rape drug.
My daughters favorite part of Teen are the quizzes that you find inside each issue. She loves to see what her "score" is.
There are lots of other items in this issue that I haven't mentioned, but I think you can get a good idea of what you(or your teenager) will find.
You can visit their website at http://www.teenmag.com. You will find something new here each day.
Teen's subscription rate is $9.97 a year with the card inside the magazine. I'm sure you can also find this price online. The normal price with no discounts is $11.97 within the United States. That's 12 issues per year. I feel that is a really good deal.
