Ok, I will start off with the few good things about Teen. They have great pictures of stars, the pros and cons of different cosmetics, good sweepstakes and some of the latest hair styles and clothes. That is it for the good.
Now, our school does a magazine sale to raise money every year to buy computers, books and whatever they need. I usually spend $80 to $120 on magazines each year. This is how I have come across THE TEEN magazine again. No, I did not renew it. Ok, how many of you who buy Teen for your kids or let them buy it, know what is in the articles? My 12 yr old niece was having questions about dating and you know the (your a adult you don't understand thing). The make-up ect. So I said I will get her Teen and show her every girl doesn't wear gobs of make-up and look like they just came from the grave(sorry).
The letters they receive from 11,12,13,14 and 15 year olds about boys, sex and dating are appalling. They don't suggest that these kids are to young to date or have sex. They tell them how to deal with the situation. I personally have wrote a letter to Teen about the advice they give our young girls today. No, I have not heard from them. I would tear out certain articles before I gave it to her. BUT, she recently confronted me about the missing pages. Her friends bring their magazines to school and she looks at them. I stood my ground and told her she did not and would not read that mess in my house.
This is how they get your attention. Pg.52 LOVE DOCTOR Parents getting in the way of your dates? A 14yr wrote about only being allowed a few hours with her boyfriend (#1 why is she allowed to go out at 14)She wanted more time with him. They told her "to show them how mature she was and they would see she was old enough for more time." Or better yet, tell them to double date with you. Hello! we were not born yesterday. We know what goes on around grown-ups is not the same thing when we are not there. Why not, you are a very lucky girl to be able to have a boyfriend at your age and especially visit or date him alone. You must have very understanding parents ect. I don't even allow my 12 yr old to talk on the phone to boys. She sees them enough at school and learns enough at school.
Here is a quiz from the Teen magazine bought mostly by 9-16yr olds. Are you chasing him away? Make sure your not overloading your Romeo with too many mixed signals. Here is a good one. Take our mini-Quiz to make sure your summer love is back to school proof. This stuff should be in Seventeen not Teen. Please if you know someone who has a daughter, ask them to read some of the articles and decide if they want their CHILD reading this smut.
This is what is wrong today, not enough parents involved in our kids life or so called private life. We have 3rd and 4th graders wearing make-up and the school not saying anything to them. No, it is not their place but 9 times out of 10 neither parent knows or allows this at home. Don't buy the magazine for them or better yet, write to them. Attn:Editor
