No Sex In This City Magazine - POETICALLY CHALLENGED W/O
Written: Aug 17 '01 (Updated Aug 17 '01)
Pros:Great cover art
Cons:Too snobbish for my taste
The Bottom Line: Check it out. It's not for everyone but just may
be to your taste.
POETICALLY CHALLENGED write-Off
Our Hosts and Hostess are baddkittym, thom413
and imolkiel.
We were paired up, and each of our "partners"
selected a magazine for us to review. My partner,
lessaleigh, selected New Yorker for me
to review in rhyme, verse, limerick, haiku, whatever.
Poetry in motion ? Not mine. So don't let
me waste any more or your time. Here's my
review and what I have to say. If you don't
enjoy it, move on, and have a nice day !
Poetically challenged, the name sure does fit,
it gives us a chance to display a keen wit.
To write a review, enjoy, have some fun,
so here's my two cents, go and read, gotta' run !
NEW YORKER MAGAZINE
New Yorker mag has got it all.
Covers uptown streets to City Hall
Shows and concerts, tourist sights,
from shopping days to blazing nights.
Articles written, some really too wordy,
Cartoons galore (and none of them dirty !)
Political statements made with a wink,
Probing essays may force you to think.
Reviews that cover books and the arts,
plus varied articles that all play a part.
Movie reviews, stories both short and long,
where to dine out or hear a new song.
The Big Apple dissected for everyones sight
from upcoming street fairs to the next heavyweight fight.
Sporting events are all on the menu,
with handy instructions on how to get to the venue.
One more on the plus side for this magazine
is the art on the cover - it has to be seen.
Some shots of the city by great camera aiming,
make lots of these photo's perfect for framing.
Many say that this mag is "tres chic",
But it ain't to my taste, no matter how sleek.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised on the street,
It's too snobbish for me, I'm not an elite(IST)
I don't need some pompous, donkey's behind,
To tell me what's "hot" in the city that's mine.
Art shows are hawked like a sideshow attraction,
Spare me the fluff and show me the action.
Snobbish and uppity is the way that I see it
Full of themselves and so full of sheeee-it.
So YOU take New Yorker, the good and the bad,
I'll have to admit, that my taste runs towards MAD !
Please read the reviews of the other maniacs
errrr.. participants and I sincerely apologize to
any REAL poets out there.
