Given that I spent several years living in Argentina, when I returned to the U.S. I wanted to be able to read a magazine written in Spanish. "Vanidades" is one of the few available in the U.S.. It is basically a fashion magazine, with articles on celebrities, health & beauty tips, and relationships. Since the target population for this magazine is young latina women, I found that the celebrity interviews were of people I often did not know, such as Mexican Novela (soap opera) stars. However, they do have some articles on world famous people, too.
"Vanidades" is geared to women who like to keep up with the latest fashion trends. I don't find myself interested in fashion, so I no longer subscribe to Vanidades.
Since I am in my mid-forties now, and have three grown children, my interests are more "middle-aged", such as parenting, social issues, interesting new recipes, etc.. Therefore, I really prefer the Spanish-language magazine "Buenhogar". Since it seems more in line with magazines like "Ladies Home Journal" or "Good Housekeeping", with articles on marriage and parenting, housekeeping tips, recipes, and some short stories.
