Pros: You feel clean just reading it.
Cons: Depressing that you can't live like they can.
The Bottom Line: Jealous-types need not apply. This magazine reminds me of ID Magazine, combined with the aspirational lifestyle of Ralph Lauren, and the paper weight of the Robb Report.

| mysticpizza's Full Review: Wallpaper* Magazine |
I first discovered this magazine back in 1998...about the time the 10th issue came out. I only knew of two places to buy it in Atlanta: Banana Republic, and for some odd reason, the A&P Supermarket!
Anyway, I stumbled upon it by accident at the A&P, and was caught by the cover. Androgynous models strewn about a minimalist platform bed with no-doubt 400-thread count sheets strategically placed to futher the androgyny mystery. I had to pick up the title to ascertain, "who the hell were these people, and why could several of them have the time to idle away on this bed, looking both anemic, yet smug?"
Anyway, not frightened away by the oversized shape of this massive mag, nor by the outrageous price ($7.95), I purchased my first issue. And what you soon realize, after you get this "Calvin Klein meets the King of Sweden" tome home, is that its very addictive. You wonder how you could have gotten by without the Japanese brand toothpaste, or the great Sun screen from Denmark.
You feel well-traveled by the end of your read. Your multi-cultural inadequacies are satiated after one read. You learn to understand that SEK is a currency, and you roughly begin to understand what the equivalent is in US$. But none of this matters anyway as you can't afford a thing in the mag. Wallpaper* is aspirational writing/living at its best. I never encounter these people in my daily life, yet they are ascessible through the pictorials, the travelogs, and the advertisements.
Best of all, Wallpaper* is great for conversation...its a keeper, stackable next to your Architectural Digests. The only problem that lurks on the horizon is that this minimalism may be on the wane, along with the youthful playboy attitude that accompanied the dot-com revolution.
