| beloit08's Full Review: Wallpaper* Magazine |
Slim fingers holding cigarettes! Dewy skin (on both women AND men)! Sexual Ambiguity under tasteful track lights and Fendi fur-lined blankets! Karman Ghias and the Ford O21C (spiffy!)! Splashes of color! World's best airports! Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwiches! Tree houses!
I'm a total magazine junky, and Wallpaper* (don't forget the *!) is one of my absolute favorites. The thing is, though, I can see this mag really angering me if it was presented in any other way.
In Wallpaper*, you'll find all the stuff other epinions members have already talked about. Literally, "The Stuff that Surrounds You," (from the magazine's cover). You'll see splashy pages of Shirpol, learn that Singapore Airlines has the best looking attendants (with Virgin running a close second), and discover modular houses and complete living units crafted from molded polyurethane.
And you'll get articles written by the likes of Edward Peacock (Peacock!) advising you not to pack a thing but to buy new clothes at each destination in your whirlwind, eight-day circumnavigation of the globe.
The best thing is, though, the mag doesn't take itself too seriously. If it did (like Surface or Flaunt) it might be too much pretension to bear (even for me!). But running through each feature, every blurb, and even much of the advertising is a glistening vein (however small) of a winking, tongue-in-cheek look at the world and things we may aspire to.
