When standing around in a check out line there are so many magazine covers that just seem to call to bored patrons. One of the magazines that I seek out whenever I go grocery shopping is Woman's World.
At just $1.49 an issue this weekly magazine is really a bargain. I've never considered a subscription but if I wanted one it would only be $61.99 for 52 issues. That isn't too bad, but I prefer to just pick it up at the store.
This is a thinner paper type of magazine that doesn't have the thicker glossy cover and is just around 55 pages long, but there are some wonderful weekly features that encourage me to continue to purchase this magazine.
The Features
This magazine has 6 featured sections every month:
*Be Informed!
*Look & Feel Your Best!
*Most Inspiring People
*Express Your Creativity & Love!
*Relax and Have Fun!
*Feel Inspired
In the Be Informed section it always starts out with a double page spread to Start Your Week With A Smile. The first page has the Table of Contents and the people who make up this magazine. There is the subscription information and where to get in touch including where to submit a story or ways to contact Woman's World. There is always an inspirational poem, generally befitting the time of the year. I have two copies of this magazine in front of me and one has a poem about Fall and the other, the most recent edition has bucket of candy corn with a jack-o-lantern on the bucket. I love the little cartoons that are the second page and there is always a Ziggy inspirational cartoon. There is always a submission by a reader titled Kid's Are Funny and these are short under 100 words little cute stories about a child an what they have said. They are always good for a smile or a giggle. Along the right side of this page there is a section called Tips to Clip! where there are 3 or 4 helpful hints for things like cleaning, housekeeping or ways to make friends. Each week the subject of these tips changes topics.
Within this section there are things about Starting Your Week In the Know, What to Watch, Read and Things To Do and then each week there are various articles on different subjects. In the magazine dated October 30 the articles are on ways to help organize you life and hwo to be more tech savvy. All of the articles in this magazine are only a page or two long, so are quick to read.
In the Look & Feel Your Best there a two page spread of type of fashion tip. There are generally health articles and a Ask the Doctor section as well.
I really enjoy reading the short articles that are in the Meet Inspiring People! section. There are usually 2 or 3 articles and I usually keep tissues handy when reading about some of the things people do to help others. Again, these articles are usually only a page or page and half long so they are quick to read.
Probably my favorite section is the Express Your Creativity and Love section. It is here where I find some crafty ideas, like creating a Halloween candy bouquet or smart ways to use paper cups. I sometimes find craft ideas for my daycare children and while often they are a little bit difficult for the under 5 year old, they can be modified to fit my group. There are a few Halloween game suggestions..like pass the gourd (aka hot potato) or a candy toss game in this October edition. I enjoy this section very much and find the ideas very practical and doable.
The Relax & Have Fun there are articles on ways to take care of and pamper yourself, your horoscope, puzzles to keep your brain working, a solve it mystery article that is a little less than a page long, and they show a beautiful two page spread of some place to visit. In this particular magazine it is Bermuda. There are some great pictures and a bit about what to see and do there.
And last but not least is the Feel Inspired articles which include a My Guardian Angel article each week, 7 days of Inspirations, which are short inspirational sayings and a Chicken Soup for the Soul article as well.
I like that in each week's magazine there is a Make-Ahead Recipe section that looks like four recipe cards with the picture of the recipe on one side and the the actual recipe on the opposite side. These can be cut out and saved, but I like to put them on a 3x5 card to make them sturdier, since they are printed on thin paper. The magazine I have has some sweet Halloween treats and how to make things like eyeball cupcakes, tombstone treats, spider web cookies and creepy candy apple creatures. They are all cute and not too difficult to make either. They'd be great for a Halloween party.
As the title of this magazine suggests, this is a magazine that mostly women would enjoy reading. It is geared toward woman with articles that woman would be interested in.
Each weeks cover shows what type of articles you'll find inside and what helpful hints are in the magazine as well. There is generally the diet tip article, health tips and some sort of wonderfully delicious treat that the magazine will show you how to make.
I really enjoy reading this magazine and while it is short on pages, it really packs so much in to it. It is a great magazine to read while you are waiting for an appointment, a child or just want to read quick easy articles or inspirational stories. I usually read it while watching tv in the evening and love that it has so many great ideas and such great articles, many written by readers.
While there are some ads, of course, they are generally full paged ads. In the magazine I have there are 6 full paged ads, but thankfully none of those irritating cards that many magazines like stuff inside.
