This is an ADULT-THEMED review, so don’t say I didn’t warn you
Men Magazine is monthly magazine that offers a monthly collection of photo shoots that feature hot male models, along with some sometimes interesting editorial content, however the focus of Men is definitely on the photo shoots and on the male models and not so much on editorial content like say Unzipped Magazine.
Details on the Men
Men is published 12 times a year (once a month), and a one year subscription will cost you $39.98. With a two year subscription you save ten bucks, as it is $70. A single issue on the newsstand is $7.99. The costs are high, like most porn and skin magazines, but if you want your porn, you’re probably willing to pay for it.
Men offers a website at http://www.menmagazine.com where you can subscribe to the magazine, buy back issues, review portions of the current issue or manage your subscription should you already have one. The pictures on the web are tamer and generally g to r rated, as opposed to everything that you’ll find in the actual magazine. There is also a member only section of the site where called the Men Cyber Club that offers exclusive content and other benefits that add to the what you already find in Men. If you’re interested in joining they offer a $4.95 trial subscription and you can join right from Men’s homepage.
In addition to various photo spreads (which almost all focus on a single male subject, unlike the couples photographed for [2] Magazine), Men offers a few different sections that are all related to sex (and generally naked guys), but that generally are entertaining and interesting. These include a series of erotic fiction stories, reviews of the newest gay porno skin movies (with some pictures – but no hardcore), and a sex-help column where readers’ questions are answered. In addition the more generic magazine sections like a letter from the Editor and a chance for readers to right in letters to the Editor.
Models used throughout the magazine are generally gay porn stars, but Men tries to provide and present a diversity of hot guys throughout its pages, instead of sticking to just the porn store stereotype (muscled up beyond belief, blond hair, smooth body). The men are not all the cookie-cutter porn stars that you’d expect – there are smooth guys, hairy guys, muscled guys, jocks, guys next door, and more and they are all there throughout the shoots (though the shoots in Men do tend to have a slightly higher ratio of the stereotypical porn star versus some other magazines I’ve seen). But anyone with any taste in men should find something to enjoy in Men magazine.
Images in the magazine are generally of one model at a time, though there are a few couples included at times, but very rarely. The spreads include full nudity and some sex but no hardcore sexually explicit images. If you are looking for couples, take a look at [2] Magazine, from the same publisher.
Is Men worth buying?
There are lots of photographs and lots of stories that relate to sex in Men magazine and is geared more for someone interested in the photos and not the stories. Men doesn’t make any bones about it – the magazine is really just about sexy pictures and sexy content. And you know what, there’s really nothing wrong with that. Men takes a positive look at gay men’s sexuality and makes a worthwhile magazine with that perspective.
I pick up an issue here and there, especially when there’s a real hot guy on the cover that catches my attention.
From the same people who publish other magazines like Unzipped, Freshmen and [2], I am glad that there are magazines out there that while clearly meant to excite and turn us on don’t so much focus on hardcore sex but enjoy showing off the male body..
My Final Take
Really no more expensive than other porno magazines (which usually are in the same price range for an issue or subscription), Men is for readers looking more for the hot pictures and less of the other writing that could be in a magazine like this. Men is about hot guys and about sex and any reader looking for this, would be well served with a subscription to this magazine.
