Pros: Comfortable, Strasburg Rules, Looks Authentic, Excellent Design
Cons: Wash Carefully
While my team is the Boston Red Sox, I do like the Washington Nationals. In fact, I am thrilled to root for them at Nats Park in SE DC close to home, and love their cadre of excellent pitchers. Yes Gio Gonzalez is the most fun, and Jordan Zimmerman may be the best all around pitcher, the stud of all studs is none other than Stephen Strasburg. He has shown this season that he has fully recovered from Tommy John surgery, and can light up the radar guns in the triple digits. Yet what makes him a pitcher, and not a thrower, is his competitive streak and his ability to mix his approach to whomever he's facing in the batter's box. Also, this man is a bulldog, and just does not seem to know what giving up is about.
I have had the great fortune of seeing him pitch at the park, and on the television. As soon as he was drafted, I was worried about the hype factor, but that went away quickly in his debut against the Pittsburgh Pirates. For the past year I've been losing weight through running, and as a man who used to have to wear clothing that was at least XL in size, its a joy to go down to the large size in jerseys and t-shirts. The Majestic Stephen Strasburg jersey was a purchase, that I am happy to show off. Its a replica, and at $79.99 at a sporting goods store, I cannot see any real cosmetic differences between this an the genuine article.
The buttons are of top notch quality. They are easy to lock up, and also don't require angry gyrations of fingers to get them off. You do not have to worry about these popping off, or somehow getting apart from their high quality stitching. At the same time, I love the Nationals red employed. It looks so good when contrasted with the bright red colors, and I almost feel as if I'm one of the players. If only I could have the interest, on the salaries that the real players do get in their accounts.
To me, it looks just like the ace of the Nats pitching staff's jersey. Its white colors are bright, and the red number 37 stands out. This is one handsome jersey, and whether I wear athletic pants, shorts, or jeans to the ballpark, it is a way of showing off my passion for this team and their stopper. The Nationals are no longer the laughing stock of baseball, as GM Mike Rizzo has assembled the best pitching staff, and some able hitters, to bring victories to the team on a more regular basis. While I do not want to jinx them, I see nothing but good news ahead, especially considering their willingness to strengthen the team through drafting, and having cornerstone players like Strasburg and Ryan Zimmerman. Danny Espinosa is having an off season to a degree, but at least he's mashing home runs out of the park, and Jayson Werth might just be showing some of the promise he's supposed to with that big contract.
A word to the wise. Machine wash this warm, and dry on the delicate cycle. Due to the materials used, it will shrink a bit if not taken care of in this manner. Also, be sure to wash it with white and light color type of clothing. I can only imagine with this bright white jersey, it being mixed with other colors, and you do not want such an expensive item to become pink or red due to throwing it in with other shirts or socks. Other than that, wear it with pride, and show off your love of Strasburg. It is a handsome shirt, and durable enough to take some beer stains, and perhaps some blood if you get into a "phight with Phillies fans :)". In all seriousness, that's not cool, and this shirt does breathe well on the dog days of August at the park or around town. You can purchase this at a lot of sports stores, and its a lot cheaper than the authentic uniform, that doesn't have any real difference worth its $150 plus dollars extra in cost. Majestic has done a fine job with this replica, and while I look like a grizzled veteran, its fun to wear this jersey.
