I know that yellow covers my dark circles better than skin toned concealer and I had been looking for a new yellow concealer to use. I generally apply the yellow first then a touch of beige so that I don't look jaundiced. I saw  Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector/Concealer Yellow on sale and decided to give it a try. It's OK but not as creamy as I would like. I used a fantastic yellow toned cream concealer by Scott Barnes that it is now discontinued so I have that gold standard to compare others to. This was is pretty average.

Packaging

This stick comes in a blister pack with clear plastic to show the actual stick. The tube is like a lipstick tube but yellow plastic. The bullet looks like a lipstick one one but is is angled on both sides and a bit more pointy. The product swivels up from the bottom. The stick is, of course, yellow.

My Experience

Yellow is great for correcting dark under eye circles and I had tremendous luck with the Scott Barnes Cream Concealer in yellow that I had been using for ages. When I saw I could no longer get that, I went looking for something as good. I have tried quite a few yellow concealers and so far, have not found one that I feel does a very good job concealing and lasting.

 Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector/Concealer Yellow is easy to use. I dot it on. I don't swipe it across my under eye area because the stick isn't as creamy as I would like. It will tug on my skin. I also at times use a concealer brush and will swirl the brush onto the concealer stick then apply.

This product is not very pigmented and is very light yellow. So light it looks almost white. White is disastrous for me because it draws attention right to the areas I am trying to conceal so I look for medium yellow tones.

The concealer does brighten my eye area but it also seeps into fine lines and highlights any dryness so I have to be sure to hydrate and prime before applying. I generally apply the yellow concealer, then my foundation, then a tiny amount of skin toned concealer a shade lighter than my foundation. The yellow underneath acts as a first step towards combating the darkness that I have had there since I was a kid.

When I applied Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector/Concealer Yellow, I could immediately tell it wasn't pigmented enough for my tough under eye circles. They came through unless I applied a heavy layer and that looked very unnatural.

Eventually, I just started dotting the concealer on to get whatever benefit it could give me and continued to use a skin toned concealer as well and let that try to pick up the slack.

This stick is not good for spots on the face or redness. Green is a good color for redness correction. This one should really only be used under and around the eyes to combat dark circles. I have heard that it will conceal bruising as well but I have not tried to use it for that purpose.

 Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector/Concealer Yellow wears off in a few hours. If I use it alone with just foundation over it, I look like a zombie in a couple of hours. If I layer another concealer over it, much depends on how well that one lasts but the yellow doesn't stick around too long. But do know that this is pretty common for any concealer I use because I am a really tough case.

It is supposed to be waterproof but it rubs off quite easily so, if you buy this and plan to use it when swimming or getting wet, give it a test run first to be sure it actually stays put. I have a feeling it won't.

Still, Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector/Concealer Yellow didn't irritate or sting my eye area and it was creamy enough to apply. It isn't so hard that I can't blend it. I just need to use either a good brush or warm fingers and carefully pat it onto my skin. If I had mild under eye circles, this inexpensive stick may have been just fine. It's convenient to carry and easy to apply. But those of us battling inherited dark circles, exaggerated by age, lack of sleep, stress, and eyes starting to get more hollow will need something a bit more robust than this product to keep the darkness at bay.

The Verdict

This corrector/concealer works for mild darkness and would probably be fine for those who just need a little but of lightening up around their eyes. I need some major help and this concealer isn't pigmented or long wearing enough for my needs. I's not bad and it doesn't cause any major issues but it's not a stand out product for me. 3 stars. I will recommend it to the folks whom I mentioned above and it is better on fair skin then deep. My skin tone is medium and it is pretty light even on me.
