I entitled this review "my first love" because of two reasons. The first reason being that my first love quite literally introduced me to the sounds of Enya. One starry night as we had a romantic, candlelit dinner these amazing sounds wafted through the air on the back of the incense. It was Enya's Watermark C.D. I was immediately smitten and even after he had broken my heart to be with another and was gone from my life I loved this music.
It reminds me of the ocean, which I truly love but rarely get to see. It reminds me of peace and serenity in the face of challenge. It reminds me that life is as simple as we make it. I will always love Enya's music because it actually means something to me.
The second reason I entitled this review "my first love" is her sounds will always be my first love in the area of new age since I have a deep need for the piano sound. I actually am at the point where I need to buy a new Watermark C.D. because I've worn mine out!
I don't profess to be some connoisseur of music, or of anything for that matter because there isn't anything I despise more than know-it-all types who act like we're all stupid and they're so intelligent. Seems to me if they are indeed so intelligent they wouldn't need to make others feel less so. I do however know what I like and in this case, what I love and I love Enya's music. Some of her music was featured on the movie "Green Card" with Andie Mcdowell and Gerard Depardieu, in fact the tune he continuously hummed is an Enya tune, Watermark to be exact- hense our C.D. title. So, next time you watch "Green Card" listen closely.
There are two tracks that are my favorite on this C.D. The first is number six entitled "miss clare remembers and the second being track number one already mentioned entitled "watermark." I just wish they were longer but other than that, I love them. They manage to put me to sleep every time, even with all my worries so please do give this C.D. a try-you won't regret it. It's strictly soft sounds, even her "faster" tunes are on the softer side. In fact, I began listening to her at the same time I began listening to Enigma and they are similar in some ways.
If you've never heard Enya but are interested in the new age sound do give this C.D. a try, feel free to e-mail me what you think. The thing is though, most people have heard her whether they realize it or not. Her song, "orinoco flow" (otherwise known as "Sail away") was on the radio quite a bit in the early 90's but believe me, there is better on this album.
Bright blessings to you, may all your tunes bring you the joy mine has.
