Sadly, Faster Pussycat's sophomore effort is bland, rehashing of material that already saturated the heavy metal market in 1989. I really had some high expectations after enjoying their promising debut so much. Unfortunately I was let down. Most of this CD is average at best and contains mostly filler around only a few good tunes.
The production value is better on 'Wake Me' and there's more tracks to fill this one out, but I'll forsake that any day for quality tunes which are sorely missing on this record. Sure there's a couple of decent songs including "House Of Pain" which gave Faster Pussycat more recognition than any of their other songs. "Poison Ivy" is my favorite track, which brings out the best this band as to offer. Even the opening track, "Where There's A Whip There's A Way", gets this album off to good start but it quickly falls flat after that.
I admired Faster Pussycat for their loose, blues hard rock style and more so for their attitude but 'Wake Me' hardly captures any of that. Fans of 80's pseudo-Glam metal/hard rock may want to pick this up in the used bin to round out their collection otherwise this disc can be avoided as you won't be missing much. I wonder if Faster Pussycat was foretelling the future when they named this record?
