Pros:Some great gems.
Cons:Almost better then The Wipers.
The Bottom Line: It may be hard to find, but if you're looking for something new, try this.

Greg Sage and The Wipers, punk rock anti legends. If you've never heard them, you owe it to yourself to at least find this album. It's loaded with west coast grunge bands. Not being a Wipers fan myself, I did in fact fall in love with this album. I managed to get ahold of it at a pawn shop for under five bucks. If you can find it, buy it.

1. Napalm Beach/Potential Suicide- This band very much like Seattle boys Tad. Strong bass line and growling howls for vocals. You can find this on Is This Real.

2. M99/Astro Cloud- The beginning sounds like a Rush song. But that feeling will pass when the vocals take hold. It's very interesting hearing female vocals do the part of Greg Sage. Imagine Sexpod and Rush covering a Wipers song. And this is what you get. This is from the album Straight Ahead.

3. Nirvana/Return Of The Rat- Well, to be honest, this is the main reason I picked up this album. Noone better to be picked to do this neo like punk song then Nirvana. It comes from the album, Is This Real. This alone is a good reason to buy the album for the Nirvana fan.

4. Poison Idea/Up Front- Another cover from Is This Real. This sounds like The Ramones and Slayer. What a beautiful mix! Redundent, loud, incoherent. Greg Sage would be proud.

5. Dharma Bums/On The Run- This is taken from Straight Ahead. It sounds like The Counting Crows got into Dharma Bums. A nice different sound. But this cover is very lame compared to the original. The twang is too much, and the vocals are in serious need of work.

6. Crackerbash/I Don't Know What I Am/Mystery- Your typical psyudo grunge sound. The vocals are way to quiet for the music. It sounds like a more amatuar version of the first song by Napalm Beach. It can be found on Is This Real. One of the tracks to hit the skip button too.

7. Hole/Over The Edge- If you like Hole, you'll love this song. They do such a good job it sounds like they were the ones who wrote. Most all the covers I have heard Hole do, They do it good. Apart from the shortness of the song, it's a standout track.

8. The Whirlees/Land Of The Lost- The longest track on the album. Mainly because the beginning is just noise building up. A bit Sonic Youth sounding. Until the vocals. It's a decent song. Very Seattle like. This is another track that stands out. Powerful rude vocals. Mellow fuzzy guitars, and a solo worthy of Greg Sage. From the album of the same name.

9. Nation Of Ulysses/Telepathic Love- Did this just turn into Devo from the pits of satan's stomach? New Wave with a brain tumor? That is exactly what this sounds like. Interesting to say the least. And with only over a minute and thirty seconds, you might as well listen to the whole thing. You may even like it. From Is This Real.

10. Honey/No One Wants An Alien- It starts off and sounds like some cheesy electronica. Then after that's over we hear powerful, yet over bearing vocals. From the album Over The Edge, it is nothing to Holes par. It's different, but doesn't fit at all with the rest of the album.

11. Hazel/Tragedy- This sounds a lot like The Wipers version. More so then a lot of the bands on the album. The guitar is a bit too fuzzy, but none the less it sounds good. Another one from Is This Real. The song starts to all mush together and sound like nothing more then noise at parts.

12. Calamity Jane/Alien Boy- The only song taken from The Wipers, Alien Boy E.P. The song starts off with feedback and a drumbeat. And like the last track everything seems to mush together. It sounds kind of like L7. Except way weaker vocals, and it needs a lot of improvement in the music itself.

13. Saliva Tree/Soul's Tounge- I always kind of liked Saliva Tree, but this song is not one of the better ones. From the album Straight Ahead. This could pass for a rejected poser' grunge band, if you're judging them by this song. It's nothing to shake a stick out, but it's decent enough to listen to the whole way through.

14. Thurston Moore and Keith Nealy/Pushing The Extreme- Ah, nothing to brighten up an album like Thurston from Sonic Youth. The love the music and guitar riff, but the vocals seem to be lacking. Don't get me wrong, they are a lot stronger then previous bands on the album. But they seem to go on all different levels. Which doesn't always have to be a bad thing.
