Pros:Were there any?
Cons:Ummm..... were there any?
The Bottom Line: When participating in a write-off, always make sure that a CD is still in-print before accepting the assigment.

Note: My successful attempt at MattA75's write-off can be found at the link below. I will not delete this review, nor discourage you from reading it. Maybe my cynicism can provide a few laughs. And the Epinions Nazis have not, and never will, ashame me. Enjoy.

"In 10 years you'll appreciate this CD," said one of my camp counselors when giving me a copy of Peter Gabriel's album Us.

He was right. It made a great gift to one of my cousins. Needless to say, I still have never listened to the CD. At that time, my listening preferences indeed clashed with his -- K7, Tag Team, Shai versus Peter Gabriel and bible-banging Xian Rock -- and he wanted to influence me while I was still prude.

Two things I'm thankful for: I no longer listen to pop-culture's rap and his religious ways didn't rub off on me.

Anyways, that distant experience and repetitive MTV rotation of "Sledgehammer" were my only encounters with Mr. Gabriel, UNTIL NOW. From what I have learned, he is the ex-vocalist of Genesis, the 70's band that also gave birth to another acclaimed vocalist, Phil Collins. Well, that's all the history I got - sorry.

And here I am, finally giving Mr. Gabriel the fair chance I guess he deserves. He is a NAME amongst names, Mr. BigStuff in the music industry. Thanks to my write-off partner, buffoonery, I get to see what is so special.

It's certainly not metal, but it's music. Sit back in your swivel chair and read.

Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel (1977):
1. Moribund the Burgermeister
2. Solsbury Hill
3. Modern Love
4. Excuse Me
5. Humdrum
6. Slowburn
7. Waiting for the Big One
8. Down the Dolce Vita
9. Here Comes the Flood

The irony behind my worthless attempt to review this CD

I'm not gonna lie to ya faithful readership. Honesty has always pulled me across the finish line, well, except in my sour love life -- "uhhh, yes honey, your a$$ looks skinny in those pants" never squeezes by.

I still haven't listened to the CD.

Everything prior to this section of my review was written the day that buffoonery told me which CD to pick up. That was a long time ago. I planned on simply downloading the tracks. I came in with a huge bias against Gabriel and anything of the sort and had no plans to spend money on something that I would never listen to again. I'm not perfect. But, what I never expected was not to be able to get a hold of the darn thing.

Out of nine tracks, even though there are 986 Peter Gabriel tracks on www.winmx.com (my usually faithful substitute for Napster), I only found the first two tracks of this album.

And, since the rest of this review will be botched anyways, there's a -1 star for this CD. It couldn't be that great if not one person has ripped it. Come on!, I found ten people with the entire Baha Men CD. Beyond "Sledgehammer" and "In Your Eyes", WHO IS PETER GABRIEL????

Then, after realizing that my hopes and dreams of pirating the entire CD had faded, I called up my local used record store and asked for Mr. Gabriel's first LP. "Sorry, sir, don't have it, would you like me to order it?"

So, I told him I needed it by Thursday the 5th of July so that I could review it before my summer vacation begins. Here I am today, with no DARN PETER GABRIEL CD!!! "Sorry, sir, it's out of print."

There's another -1 star for being out of print. Gabriel is renowned in the music industry, but his early CDs are out of print. My conclusion - it must suck.

Assumptions I've made because I'm bored and need to add something else

"In Your Eyes", while it was a smash hit after being in some movie (don't recall the name, can just picture it), really is a repetitive love song like all the rest and probably an early inspiration to the $hit music we are stuck with listening to on every radio station. Plus, any old average love sick guy could have written the tune at one sitting. Goodbye to one more star.

Now, in a sudden switch in attitude, "Sledgehammer" rocks! Even though it is also a failure for supposed brilliant songwriting, the video rocks. Yes, we all know from MTV's brilliant Making the Video that artists have no creative power in TV's iron fist grasp on the music industry; but, those fruit flying around forming faces were awesome DUDE!! YA KICKA$$ +1 star for Gabriel

Anyone with a track name "Moribund the Burgermeister" is an idiot -1 stars

I've used this review to offend many Genesis fans +1 stars

Every one of you are currently scrolling down to click Not Helpful -1 stars

Every one of you are questioning my intelligence and maturity -1 stars

I forgot this review was about Peter Gabriel and his out of print CD and not me +2 stars

My apologies to my awesome partner

Hey, buffoonery, what's up dude! Yah, if you got this far without blocking me, that's a good sign dude and you'll forgive me right!?!? Ya, you heard my rant. I feel like Brodie from MallRats but I had to fill up this notepad file with something.

I'll be Wisconsin, the land of cheese and HELL, until next Saturday, so if yuo want to choose another CD or send this one to me by mail, AWESOME. I'll make it up -- especially after you took the time to buy an in-print cd and actually review it. Well, wish me luck for my trip to Hell.

My Review Recap

After scrolling up and reading my nonsense, I've counted only a total of -2 stars. That means a 3 out of 5, yay!!!! Wait, that's way too generous. -1 more star because it is 12:30 a.m., and I have a long car ride tomorrow

2 out of 5 YAY!!

Also, I don't recommend this CD because it's OUT OF PRINT! If you find it send it to me. BYE

Thanks,
Metal Swami Steve
