If Peter Gabriel hadn't left Genesis, he probably wouldn't be the man he is today.
"Us" was Peter's second full-fledged album of original tracks, including hit singles such as "Digging In The Dirt" and "Steam." But that's not what this album's all about. It's about art. Pure, bona fide art.
The first track, "Come Talk To Me," is a duet with his then-rumored girlfriend, Sinead O'Connor. The two have unique vocals that harmonize beautifully, especially when combined with the unique, somewhat tribal melodies and beats of the song.
Then, of course, come fun tracks such as the aforementioned "Steam." This tune always makes me want to get up and strut my stuff. It's reminiscent of Peter's initial commercial recognition in the U.S, when he gave us hits like "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time." (The video is reminiscent of these times as well; check it out if you haven't yet.)
All in all, it's a fun album. Listen to it while doing some strenuous home task, like wiping the ceiling or waxing the floor. Or listen to it at a get-together with your friends. Either way, it'll make you a Peter fan to the end.
