Pros:Dream Weaver, Shannon, Let Your Love Flow, I'd Really Love To See You Tonight
Cons:Odd song order
The Bottom Line: I don't want to skip any of these songs. Now that's a shocker.
I picked up volume 18 the same day I got volume 17 and it’s a good thing too. As lack luster and dull as I found volume 17, 18 is marvelous. I chose this one on the basis of "Dream Weaver," "Let Your Love Flow," and "Fooled Around And Fell In Love." At the time I bought this one I hadn’t heard "Dream Weaver" in years, possibly a decade, but the tune wafted through my mind like the delicate scent of a lover’s cologne. (Sigh.)
The track list:
"Wasted Days And Wasted Nights" – Freddy Fender
"Dream Weaver" – Gary Wright
"Let Your Love Flow" – Bellamy Brothers
"Right Back Where We Started From" – Maxine Nightengale
"Falling Apart At the Seams" – Marmalade
"Fooled Around And Fell In Love – Elvin Bishop
"Happy Days" – Pratt & McClain
"Shannon" – Henry Gross
"Making Our Dreams Come True" – Cyndi Grecco
"Afternoon Delight" – Starland Vocal Band
"Moonlight Feels Right" – Starbuck
"I’d Really Love To See You Tonight" – England Dan & John Ford Coley
Ah yes, the "Happy Days" theme, the memories, but can you spot the Laverne & Shirley theme? I didn’t recognize it my the title either, but as soon as the music started I perked up and remembered. "Making Our Dreams Come True." I was also pleasantly surprised by "Right Back Where We Started From." Such a happy little disco ditty. Really, there isn’t a single song on this CD that my fingers itch to skip, but several that I want to repeat. Like "Shannon." I learned in the liner notes that "Shannon" is about a dog. Up until now I just thought it was a pretty, sad ballad, now it will forever bring tears to my eyes. I would like to know whose brilliant idea it was to put "Shannon" between "Happy Days" and "Making Our Dreams Come True." Hey, let’s put the really sad, heart tugging song between two songs that are relentlessly happy.
And speaking of liner notes. These aren’t too bad. No random (and wrong) McCartney bashing and there’s even a truly hysterical picture of Pratt & McClain that’s worth the price of the whole CD. The writer actually makes a couple of salient points. Shocking, huh?
This one’s a keeper. The song selection is great. The song order is a little odd, but hey. The pictures on the inside of the liner notes conjure memories of polyester and my sister teaching me to disco in the living room. So far on the Super Hit’s Of the 70’s, I’m 2 for 3. I think I’ll try another.
