cruzeiro1's Full Review: Songs from the Wood [Bonus Tracks] [Remaster] by J...
This is by far the best Jethro Tull has to offer. The songs are incredibly challenging and the band expertly demonstrates their mastery of their respective instruments. Often called the first of the three Tull folk albums, this album echoes of medieval and pre-industrial England. If you close your eyes you could be strolling through the renaissance fairs or sitting by a fire and raising a mug of ale with your friends.
The best songs are: Songs From The Wood, Cup of Wonder, Jack-In-The-Green, Velvet Green, The Whistler and Hunting Girl.
Ask most people and their only exposure to Jethro Tull is on the radio and to great songs like 'Aqualung' ,'Thick as a Brick' or 'Locomotive Breath'. While Songs From The Wood doesn't contain heavier songs like these, the songs are just as powerful and are capable of evoking strong emotion. As always, Ian Anderson interlaces his lyrics with subtle hints and innuendos and this album is no different. It is this creativity that inspires Tull fans and that makes this a great album.
