sbennick's Full Review: Greatest Hits by Reba McEntire
I don’t have a lot to say about Reba. I think she pretty well says it all for herself. Not only is she a country music performer, she also has performed in a number of movies. She has her own TV show on the WB Network, has written 2 books and performed on Broadway earlier this year.
Reba was the first female performer to sell as many tickets as the male performers. She reigns as the most successful female artist in the genre with 50 million records sold.
Reba McEntire’s Greatest Hits was released in 1987 on MCA Records. I purchased my copy of Reba McEntire’s Greatest Hits not long after that. If I remember correctly, I ordered it though the BMG Club.
You can purchase it at about any music store. Reba is still a big seller.
Reba McEntire’s Greatest Hits went Platinum. This CD has 10 tracks and is about 30 minutes long. It was mastered for CD by Glenn Meadows using the JVC Digital Audio Mastering System. It has a very good mix of Reba’s older stuff. I, personal, am not a fan of most of her newer stuff.
Reba is what I call a story teller. Her songs always tell a story of some kind. No song is half done. This CD also has had some great music videos produced.
1.Just A Little Love..Written By….Dennis Morgan/Steve Davis
4:01….(This is a slow and mellow song. I know sometimes when things look so goofy, my husband can make me feel better just by hugging me. This song says it all.)
When our check bounces at the store,
And the whole world seems at war,
You bring me peace of mind once more,
With just a little love
2.He Broke Your Memory Last Night..Written By…Dickey Lee/Bucky Jones2:50 (Keeping his memory alive. But all things must end. Finally! A Great Waltz.)
Then he broke your memory last night,
I felt it shatter inside,
I guess he held me a little too right,
He broke your memory last night
3.How Blue..Written by…John Moffat 2:40 (This is a great two-step song. One of my favorites. Very upbeat.)
How Blue can you make me,
How long till I heal,
How can I go on loving you when you're gone,
How blue can I feel
4.Somebody Should Leave..Written By….Harlan Howard/Chick Rains3:32….(Why keep putting doing this. Hoping that things will improve.
Good for a one step.)
Somebody should leave,
But which one should it be,
You need the kids and they need me,
Somebody should leave,
But we hate to give in,
We keep hoping somehow we might need each other again
5.Have I Got A Deal For You..Written By…Michael P. Heeney/Jackson Leap2:44 (Let’s Talk. Kinda of a pick up song.Okay for a two-step.)
Well you look like the kind who's got an eye for a bargain,
The kind of guy who likes to shop around,
Well I got me this old heart,
That I'm putting on the market,
And I'll make you a deal you can't turn down
6.Only In My Mind..Written By…Reba McEntire 3:37 (Reba’s first #1 hit that she had write herself. Very Slow. Meant for a Slow Dance.)
He said have you ever cheated on me,
Has there been someone else,
Is there someone you love more than me,
Someone you can't forget,
If his memory is opened again,
Let it be chased away by time,
He said have you ever cheated on me,
I said only in my mind
7.Whoever's In New England..Written By… Kendal Franceschi/Quentin Powers 3:21 (Story of a lady who knows her husband is cheating on her. But yet, she will be there waiting for him. WAKE UP LADY!!)
When whoever's in New England’s through with you,
And Boston finds better things to do,
You know its not too late 'cause you'll always have a place to come back to,
When whoever's in New England’s through with you
8.Little Rock..Written By….Pat McManus/Bob DiPiero/Gerry House 3:05 (Upbeat. Story of a woman thinking about cheating on her husband. He works all the time and doesn’t remember to take care of stuff at home. More of a Line Dance type of song.)
Oh little rock,
Think I'm gonna have to slip you off,
Take a chance tonight and untie the knot,
There's more to life than what I've got.
9.What Am I Gonna Do About You..Written By….Doug Gilmore/Bob Simon/Jim Allison 3:28 ( A woman flat out lonely. Not much of a dance song per say. Okay for a slow dance, I guess.)
What in the world am I gonna do about you,
Oh your memory keeps coming back from out of the blue,
Oh well I try and I've tried but I still can't believe that we're through,
So tell me what in the world am I gonna do about you,
What am I gonna do about you.
10.One Promise Too Late..Written By….Dave Loggins/Lisa Silver/Don Schlitz 3:25 ( Where was he at before the vows were made? Faster. Good for a two step.)
Where were you,
When I could have loved you,
Where were you,
When I gave my heart away,
All my life I've been dreaming of you,
You came along one promise too late,
You came along one promise too late.
