JiggyJay's Full Review: Complete Discography by Minor Threat
Ive spoken of Minor Threat in most of my punk reviews, so I thought it would be appropriate for me to finally write about them like my buddy, minorthreat78, did. Well, to begin this sumb!tch, let me just tell you that Ive been a fan of MT for years and years before Id even known what punk rock was. The hardcore punk feeling that similar bands at the time had like Crass, Conflict, and Bad Brains is a wonderful feeling and really made me just love them.
Minor Threat first formed in 1980 with Ian MacKaye (vocals), Brain Baker (bass), Lyle Preslar (guitar), and Jeff Nelson (drums). After some success, Lyle wanted to go to college so MT disbanded. Jeff and Ian started another band named Skewbald/Grand Union (which was also a really kicking band), but they also broke up when Minor Threat came back together in I believe 1982. After some more success and gaining a lot of fans, they broke up for the final time in 㥛 for unknown reasons. A short time later, Ian achieved major stardom (in the punk world) with the fantastic Fugazi band and I think (but Im not sure) that hes also running Dischord Records (which released this CD).
What is Minor Threats sound? Well, thats easy to tell you. Their music is fast paced as hell and never stops. Some people might think of this as a problem since when this sometimes happens, tempos mix and the songs blur together, but surprisingly, it never happens in Complete Discography. All the songs are fresh and very hardcore. Speaking of hardcore, they are on the borderline of punk rock and metal music. Their lyrics are centered on the punk rock crowd but the music is so hard and mean, that its metal. The lyrics, by the way, are intelligent and never over-rhyme. They are sarcastic, furious, and they make good points on certain subjects. Their sound is unique and no bands can copy it. Lets all give a kudos to Minor Threat.
This CD basically consists of all the songs that Minor Threat made in their three years as a band and the songs are all really good. Their whole self titled album is on this along with some kick-around songs and the songs on the whole album are fabulous.
One of the songs which I just love is the song, Filler. This song is a punk rockers dream because its so full of anger (like the rest of the CD) and the chorus is one of punk rocks best. This is also one of Minor Threats most famous songs. If I ask a punk rocker what his/her favorite punk song is, they all reply Filler. Another great song that one of their most famous and best, is their theme song Minor Threat. Again, the chorus is fantastic along with great lyrics in sort of a negative anthem if you will. The drums are superior to everything thats on the record and the guitar and bass feed-off is superb.
There are no bad tracks at all on the CD, which is really surprising. Literally, all the tracks are awesome just that there are some that are above mediocre, but not terrific. Those tracks include Think Again, Little Friend, and Good Guys (Dont Where White). These songs are great, just that I feel that something is missing, like a note out of tune, or a lyric not making sense, but they are still really fun to hear and furious.
Some other favorite songs include Small Man, Big Mouth and Guilty of Being White. The sarcasm and humor is a little updated and cool, but they have mature and serious themes behind them. Small Man, Big Mouths only flaw is that its really short but the rest is great with explosive guitar and a well-tuned bass with mad drumming. Guilty of Being White is one of those tracks I was telling you about where it might be humorous to some but is serious to others. This song talks about racism and how it wasnt Ians (since he writes almost all the lyrics himself) fault that hes white and how he doesnt appreciate people of other races judging him by something that his ancestors did. It has an aggressive chorus and an awesome melody, making it a great track also.

You can now get this for a bargain at about ten bucks for over 20 songs so thats a great deal. Ive been listening the CD non-stop for yearsits that good and I guarantee to you that you will love this album because I do. Drop your fake punk rock and try this hardcore stuff outits much better.
